Re: ConnectComputer does not work

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

I would probably order the SP1 CD
In the mean time if you need to add the computer to the domain, do it manually. You can add the client apps manually as well.

Thank you for checking this post.

Well, here is an update and actions taken:

Running http://server/connectcomputer link from a computer that was already
joined to this SBS domain produced the following error, "Files that are
critical to Client Setup cannot be copied to this client computer. A network
administrator must reinstall the Client Deployment component on the server by
using Microsoft Windows Small Business Server Setup, which is available in
Add or Remove Programs. Then run Client Setup again."

These are the steps I've taken so far:

I've restarted the server and connectcomputer did not work.

I ran the CEICW, although I did not allow it to reconfigure the broadband
connection, or exchange, but I did allow it to reconfigure some web portion
of the wizard.

I went into Add/Remove programs, ran the Small Business Server Setup, and
removed the entire Client Deployment component.

Afterward, I reinstalled the Client Deployment component using the Small
Business Server Setup. The server gave me this message at the end of the
install, "Your server might not function properly because a component of
Windows Small Business Server has been overwritten by an older version. To
restore the component, install the most recent service pack for Windows Small
Business Server from either the Service Pack CD or the Microsoft Web Site.

The server restarted after the Client Deployment component install, and
connectcomputer does not work.

SERVER HISTORY:

I haven't used connectcomputer since before I applied SBS2003 SP1 (and all
the other SP's that go with it) back in January.

Here's the work I logged on 14Feb06: Server maintenance:
Remove software update services.
Turn off windows firewall on all clients. Rsch.
Clean out badmail.
Look up and resolve KB-842493 on server1.
Deleted .php from web service extensions to resolve unknown w3wp.exe app
error.

Last summer I did have a bout with tring to install PHP on this server so
that it would run PHP scripts, but then I finally convinced my client not to
host their web site on this server.

NEXT STEPS:

I've downloaded SBS 2003 SP1 again and I plan on installing it tonight (just
the SBS Service Pack, not the others)

Well, if you've made it to the bottom of this post, Congratulations! I'm
open to any ideas.

Thanks again for taking a look,
Tadd
