RE: RAID1

Hi Matt,

Thank you for posting here.

I appreciated Void's input and here I have some supplemental information
and you may have a try.

Technically, we have two options of mirroring: hardware mirroring and
software mirroring. Hardware mirroring is using a RAID card to control the
mirroring and two mirrored hard disk are treated as a single disk in
Windows. Generally, mirroring a partition only is not doable in hardware
mirroring. Software mirroring is using the Windows RAID driver to mirror
the hard disks. We can manage software mirroring by Disk Management
console. It supports mirroring a single partition on a hard disk.

If you would like to use hardware mirroring, please purchase a RAID card
and consult the provider for detailed configuration. In this case, your
concerns are how to perform software mirroring, please refer to the
following article:

323432 HOW TO: Mirror the System and Boot Partition (RAID1) in Windows
Server
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=323432

- If Windows is installed on Drive C (by default), Drive C is both system
partition and boot partition.

816307 Best Practices for Using Dynamic Disks on Windows Server 2003-Based
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=816307

- I would recommend performing a full backup of your system & booting
partition prior to mirroring it.

Hope this help, if you have any other concerns or need more help, please
feel free to post back.

Have a great weekend.

Best Regards,

Chace Zhang (MSFT)
