I disconnected and then uninstalled the USR 5633a modem from the server
through Device Manager. I then connected a USR Courier v.everything
modem and configured it through the Fax Service like normal. I sent a
couple of test faxes which were routed correctly to Sharepoint and to
the Exchange Public Folder. However, this success only lasted a couple
of days. About 3 days after installed the replacement modem, the server
stopped receiving faxes. I was able to successfully restart the Fax
service with this modem (which was an improvement over the last modem),
but it did not correct the problem, so I rebooted the server (It is
still necessary to hard power down the server when rebooting).

I have now tried many different steps without success to get this
server to receive faxes, until I disabled and re-enabled the COM1 port
(which the modem is connected to) and the modem through Device Manager
(in that order). After performing these two steps I was able to receive
a test fax which was routed to Sharepoint and to the appropriate
Exchange Public Folder. This is great, as this server has not received
a fax for more than a week now, but I am concerned about the permanence
of this functionality. Do you have any idea what might cause such a
problem? I'll keep my eye on it for the next few days to see if it
quits receiving again.

Thanks,

Allen
