Sharepoint unusably slow

Our installation of Sharepoint on SBS is extremely slow. It takes seconds to
load each page. Strangely, other pages coming off IIS on the same server are
very fast. Remote Web Workplace and Outlook Web Access are really quick.

The hardware is adequate: 3ghz AMD processor, 2GB of RAM. There's no traffic
on the network -- there's only two of us playing with this thing.

This is a plain vanilla SBS install. Why are Sharepoint pages so much slower
than other pages?
