If there's a folder redirection policy in the new domain, it should happen
automatically. Certain group policies can take a few reboots of the
workstation to be applied (I think up to 3). Could that be it?

I'm assuming it's currently pointing to the local My Docs folder on the
workstation?

One more question. I should have mention that the client in this scenario
is
running Windows 2000 (for now). I was able to copy the profile and add to
the
new domain but the thing I thought would happen, did. Now when I log on to
the new domain I can't open My Docs because the target for this folder is
pointing to the old domain. How do I get this target to point to the new
domain?

If something gives you a hard time anywhere in the process, go to
Start ->
Run and type "rsop.msc" without the quotes. That'll run a "resultant set
of
policy" telling you every policy that's set on the workstation, and where
it's set from. Then you should be able to edit that policy by going to
Start -> Run and typing MMC. That'll bring up an empty console where you
can click File -> Add/remove snap-in. Add the one called "Group Policy
Object Editor."

Reminder - anything you do to change the security affiliation of the PC
will
likely kill your access to the client side cache, so remember to save the
files elsewhere first.

That's great information but I still have a second part to the
question.
When
I copy the Domain profile to a fresh local profile the My Documents
folder
in
the fresh local profile can't be opened because it is redirected to a
server
that I am no longer connected to. How can I change these setting on the
local
profile before I join to the new domain. Thanks

Windows Explorer and click Tools -> Folder Options and go to the
Offline
Files tab. Click View Files. That'll open a window showing all the
offline
copies that are stored in that user profile (including not only My
Docs,
but
anything that's set to be available offline). You can just
drag-and-drop
the files from that window to copy them to a different location on the
PC.

Offline files are stored in a double-secret hidden directory,
c:\windows\CSC
(client-side cache). They're stored in a special database format, so
you
can't access them directly.

If you join the workstation to the new domain, you'll almost certainly
lose
access to those files, so I'd copy them out of the cache to a safe
location
before proceeding further.

Hello All this is my first time posting. I have an SBS2003 Domain
(1)
with
about 45 Workstations. Several months ago I took a workstation out
of
the
domain to use at an off site location. The user contined to log in
under
her
domain profile without being connected to the Domain. I am now
setting
up
a
second SBS Domain (2) at her location and would like to migrate her
domain
profile to the new domain. I tested this on another workstation that
I
had
retired... here are the , problems. This Worstation also had folder
redirection applied for all of the time it sepnt connected to Domain
(1).
When I copy the profile, it doesn't copy anything in the locally
cached
copy
of My Documents. It onle copies the fact that My Documents points to
a
share
on Domain (1). Since this domain is not available, I can't open the
My
Documents folder. I tried various ways to re-create a NON
Re-directed
My
Documents folder on the temporary local profile to no avail. If I
log
in
as
the original domain user I can see all of the files in the My
Documents
folder (even though I am not connected to the lan), however, I can
not
find
these same files in explorer. I am not sure where these files
actually
exist.
So I guess the question is. How do I easilly either copy the domain
profile
and establish a non redirected My Documents folder or Cancel the
redirection
on just this one worstation then migrate the profile. Sorry for such
a
long
post.
