Hi Mart,
Thanks for your update. I am glad to know that things are getting fine now.
I appreciate your time and effort to try my suggestions and get this
resolved.
And also I will report your feedback to the appropriate channel to improve
the productions.
Here's a summary of this post for your reference:
PROBLEM: the SBS backup runner failed to backup and received error message
"Error: The device reported an error on a request to write data to media.
Error reported: Unknown error. There may be a hardware or media problem."
RESOLUTION: Increase the session timeout value by adding the registry key
SessTimeout and increasing the value to 300 in the registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Ntbackup to resolve the issue.
Please do not hesitate to post in this great newsgroup if you need any
assistance in the future. We are glad to help.
Have a nice day!
Sincerely,
Jenny Wu

hi jenny
just thought i would let you know i have had 2 successfull backups!
i set it up using the wizard using the ip address of my network drive.
i set up the sesstimeout key to 300 secs. i am pretty convinced that
the timeout key sovled the problem. i always thought it was just timing
out finding the disc to begin the transfer of the files. so thank you
very much. you should tell the wizard programmers to set that into
their program.
i also disabled my little ping bat file that i used to wake up the
disc. so the wizzard and the timeout setting did it all by itself.
i know its too early to say for certain that all is ok but i am feeling
more positve.
cheers and thanks
