Hi William,
Thanks for your update. I appreciate your time to the issue.
I am sorry for the delayed response due to weekend. Please understand that
the newsgroups are staffed weekdays by Microsoft Support professionals to
answer your systems and applications questions. Your understanding is
greatly appreciated!
If the 8MB of unallocated space reserved by Windows is deleted and used to
create a partition that consumes the entire size of the disk, make the size
of that partition a minimum of 10MB smaller when creating the partition to
reserve space for the LDM database. The solution I provided does not apply
to the scenario that the single partition is also system partition. We can
not delete the system partition. From your description, I understand that
you just have one hard disk and there is only partition on the disk. In
your current scenario, we do not suggest that you upgrade the basic disk to
the dynamic.
Or you need backup the whole system and then re-format the hard disk
following the rules listed above, reinstall Windows, restore from backup,
and then convert partition(s) from basic to dynamic.
You can refer to the following document to backup and restore the SBS
server:

to help.
Have a nice day!
Sincerely,
Jenny Wu

I only have one drive which is the system partition and the whole drive is

Hi William,
Thanks for using the SBS newsgroup. Also thanks for Mark's input.
From your description, I understand the issue to be: you tried to
thatbasic disk to a dynamic disk in SBS 2003, you received error message
offsays your disk does not have enough free space for the upgrade. If I am
tobase, please don't hesitate to let me know.
As the Mark said, the issue may occur if there is not enough free space
that is not partitioned at the end of your disk to create the private
region database for the dynamic disk. We can use the following methods
dowork around this problem.
If there is only One Partition on the Disk, you can refer to below steps:
1. Back up all the data on the partition. For information about how to
(withoutso, click Start, click Help, click the Index tab, type "ntbackup"
1,quotation marks), double-click the Backing Up Files topic, and then
double-click Backing Up Files.
2. Start Disk Manager, right-click the partition you backed up in step
steps:and then click Delete Partition.
3. Right-click the disk you want to upgrade to a dynamic disk, click
Upgrade To Dynamic Disk, and then follow the instructions on the screen.
4. Re-create and reformat the volume, and then restore your data to this
volume.
If there are Multiple Partitions on the Disk, you can refer to below
information
1. Back up all the data on the last partition on the disk. For
extendedabout how to do so, click Start, click Help, click the Index tab, type
"ntbackup" (without quotation marks), double-click the Backing Up Files
topic, and then double-click Backing Up Files.
*NOTE: If the last partition on the disk is a logical drive in an
drivespartition, you must back up your data, and then delete all logical
Disksand the extended partition itself.
2. Start Disk Manager, right-click the last partition, and then click
Delete Partition.
3. Right-click the disk you want to upgrade to a dynamic disk, click
Upgrade To Dynamic Disk, and then follow the instructions on the screen.
4. Re-create and reformat the volume, and then restore your data to this
volume.

If the issue persists, please help me collect the following information
ofanalyze:
1. Please let me know the exact error message and capture a screen shot
sendthe error message and send to my working mailbox: v-yanniw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
2. Please save the application and system log files to .evt file and

Hope above information helps. I am happy to be of assistance to you and
look forward to your reply.
