Dear Customer,
Thank you for posting to the SBS Newsgroup.
From your post, my understanding of this issue is: You would like to havethe Internet Explorer warning "Some files can harm your computer. If the
file information looks suspicious or you do not fully trust the source, do
not open the file" not display when you open documents from your SharePoint
site. If I have misunderstood your concern, please let me know.
Basically what is happening when you choose to edit the document is that
the client will download it, then open it for editing. There is a security
setting in Windows for file types that will ask you to confirm opening
these types of documents. Because automatically downloading and launching a
Word or Excel document could pass Macro's and what not to the client (i.e.
there's a security risk) this security mechanism is in place. I would
highly recommend leaving it in place, but the choice is yours.
Before disabling it, please consider the workaround of using Explorer View
in SharePoint. From Explorer View, the documents are treated as if they're
on a mapped drive, and are not seen as a download. Therefore, when editing
a document from Explorer View, you will not receive this prompt.
If you still would like to disable the prompt, you can control this setting
by adjusting the settings in Windows Explorer. For the file type that you
want to open directly without this warning message, you can un-tick the
"Confirm open after Download" option for the file type in Windows Explorer.
1) On the client, open Windows Explorer
2) In Tools > Folder Options > File Types, locate the file types in use,
such as .doc, .xls, etc...
3) For each file type, click Advanced, then un-tick the "Confirm open after
Download" option.
4) Retest

Hi All,
I have a situation where when some user click on a listing link for a
Word doc stored in a document library and get a blank page that says
'Done" in the status bar. This listing is available to all portal
users. To test, it added a link to the document library to open the
document directly from the library and they got the following message
box message:
Some files can harm your computer. If the file infomation looks
suspicious or you do not fully trust the source, do not open the
file....
Has anyone else had this issue?
Does anyone know a fix?
