Re: No incoming email on new SBS 2003 network

Yes, the Telnet test I ran seemed to work fine. I received the email at the client machine.

DNS report: mail.<mydomain>.com

[ERROR: The parent servers say that the domain mail.<mydomain>.com does not have any NS records (although they may have some other information on that zone). I can not do a DNS report on a hostname (such as mail.example.com) or a domain name that does not have its own zone.]

Mail Test: mail.<mydomain>.com

Shows no MX record but does show an A record with the correct IP address.

Mail Test: on valid email account for my domain

Got the MX record, but Could not connect: Could not receive data: Operation timed out.

can you telnet to your server on port 25?
Check your DNS records for your domain name here

I have installed a new SBS 2003 network which shares a DSL connection via an
Actiontec DSL Gateway. I added an MX record yesterday to our domain
registration directing mail to our static IP address. I can now ping my
mailserver name from anywhere outside the network and the returns show up at
my network's IP address, however, we are not receiving any emails into the
Exchange server. Outgoing works fine.

The DSL Gateway has a firewall with three levels of security, but it is
presently turned completely off. I have run and rerun the Internet
Connection Wizard, double-checking the setup of the network connections (two
NICs on the server), enabling the firewall to allow all pertinent services,
recreating the certificate, and configuring the email.

I ran an SMTP test that I found in the Microsoft Knowledge Base using Telnet
from my server. The email came through.

I am in the process of downloading and installing all of the compnents for
SBS SP1 and Exchange SP2.

Is there anything I'm not thinking of that could be keeping my incoming mail
from getting there? I have sent test emails from each user's computer to an
outside email address. I then replied to each of them. None of the replies
have been delivered, but I received no NDRs either.

I thought 24 hours would be sufficient time for the propogation of the
aforementioned DNS changes, but it just looks more and more like it hasn't
happened yet, except for the fact that I can ping my mail server and receive
the new IP address.

Can anyone shed any light on this problem? Is there anything else I can
check to ensure that everything is configured correctly? Unfortunately, time
is critical to getting my email up and running.

The only other issue I seem to be having is the Remote Web Workplace will
not work either. It renders a page cannot be displayed error, citing Cannot
find server or DNS Error at the bottom of the page. Again, keeping in mind
that the firewall in the DSL Gateway is off.

Thank you in advance for any help...
