I do have a static IP. But SBCGlobal will not do a reverse lookup on it.
And it doesn't resolve to our mail server but to the SBCGlobal server, so
we end up with two strikes against us for spam.
Can you expand more on the smart host method. That is a new term to me

Sending via the smart host method usually will workaround the reverse
lookup issue. Even more important would be a static IP if SBCGlobal is
only providing a dynamic IP as that also helps to resolve most spam
filter issues as well as makes the SMTP setup easier in the long run.
Again you're using the POP connector for long term use and it was never
intended to do that.

When SMTP is used, you need to have reverse lookup to get past most spam
filters. Our ISP is SBCGlobal who refuses to manage the account or
provide the reverse. They will release it to us, which then provides an
entirely new level of complexity and skills, not presently possessed.
I'd love to go to SMTP. Maybe I need to use this as incentive to learn
about Internet IP Address management.

The POP connector was never intended for long term use but more as an
interim service while SMTP was setup. Any reason not to switch to SMTP?

We get intermittent errors on our POP3 connection that triggers an
item in our event log. Event ID 1019, 1023 and 1036.
I have researched this and see it is a common problem but have never
found a way to fix it. It seems the errors are thrown if there is a
break or glitch in the POP3 account. The connection still works ok and
the mail is downloaded without any other problems. I have never had to
go in and reconnect or rebuild the connection.
Are there any ideas on how to correct this. I have seen it is
considered "benign" but it is kind of annoying to find there in the
daily report. I like a clean *** each morning.
