Thanks for posting here.

From your post, my understanding on this issue is: you cannot use the web
share option to share a local directory on the default web site. If I am
off base, please feel free to let me know.

Based on the information I have now, Please help me collect the following
information in order to narrow down this issue:

1. Please let me know are you creating a new Virtual Directory under
Default Web site?

2. Please let me know whether you can access the web link from internal
network?

3. Please let me know the detail steps you used the web share option on the
default site.

4. Please let me know the error message you received when you access the
default site.

For test purpose, let's try the following steps:

1. You could enable the "Enable anonymous access" option and only enable
"Windows Integrated Authentication" for this Virtual Directory in IIS. (not
the root site "Default Web Site")

2. Open the properties of this Virtual Directory, go to the Directory
Security tab, click the second Edit button, make sure the "Granted access"
option is selected.

3. Click the third Edit button, make sure that "Require secure channel
(SSL)" is not enabled.
