If that router is blocking or not forwarding the correct ports it could
still be the culprit.......right....even if it is on the inside if the
network?

The router does do port forwarding however its behind the sbs box. The sbs
box has two nics. One connected to net and other goes to hardware router /
switch.
I believe the firewall on sbs is blocking those ports.
All I want is for a couple of xp clients (SP2 - did disable firwall on
those
cpus during test.) to be able to play aoe2 on zone.
Thanks for quick reply.

I currently have sbs 2003 standard (no isa) running. The current
configuration is
Internet -> ISP -> Cable Modem-> NIC1 -> SBS ->
NIC2 -> Router / Switch(DHCP turned off - using SBS for this) for
clients.
Everything works fine. However I am having difficulties with port
forwarding.
Whenever one of the clients - all xp pro, attempts to play a
mutliplayer
game (aoe2) they get unable to join error. After scouring the net it
appears
that a range of ports needs to be open.
I went to Routing and Remote Access server > IP Routing > NAT/Basic
Firewall
> Properties > Services and Ports and attempted to open range of ports
provided by ms.
Here is info from ms.
Using DirectX 8 or a later version
Connection Ports for Client Configuration Ports for Host Configuration
Initial UDP Connection 6073 Outbound 6073 Inbound
Subsequent UDP Inbound 2302-2400 2302-2400
Subsequent UDP Outbound 2302-2400 2302-2400
I didnt see where I am able to specify a range. What I did was to
create 3
entries
1)intial
2) inbound / outbound 2302
3)inbound / oubound 24000
I used the ip address of client in the forward box for all.
This must of did something because xp client (SP2) no longer received
unable
to join error when attempting to play through zone. However multoplayer
still
isnt working. I believe its cause I didnt open a range of ports.
Can anyone please assist. I am also worried about leaving ports open. I
would also like to have any client be able to play.
Any suggestions? I have pulled my hair for past 3 days!
Thanks,
Jack
