Re: DHCP Dual Network Setup

Hello,

SBS 2003 with 2 NIC acts as a router/NAT device for you so ... it will be
able to detect the DHCP servive on the router even if is is on another
subnet. What you can try is use the dhcploc tool (under support tools,
windows CD or downloadable
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=49AE8576-9BB9-4126-9761-BA8011FABF38&displaylang=en)
to detect the active DHCP servers on your network. If you can see it with
that tool from your internal subnet so can SBS ...
What you can try is use another subnet (if the router supports it) or add a
little router extra that the SBS can not see and use that for handing out
IP's to visitors. That way you can also make sure the visitors sbunet only
routes to the internet and no where else ....

I have setup Small Business Server with the Dual card Setup. The internet
card address is on a 192.168.5.0 subnet and the internal card is on a
10.1.1.0 subnet. I have a Wireless internet router on on the internet
address
192.168.5.1 which connects to the internet. Is is possible to enable the
dhcp
server on the router for the 192.168.5.0 network (so that wireless laptops
can access the internet without logging onto the sbs domain) and enable
the
sbs dhcp server on the 10.1.1.0 network (for workstations logged onto the
sbs
domain). This does not seem to be working as when I enable the dhcp server
on
the router the sbs dhcp stops even though they are on different subnets.
Please help....

Regards
Redeye
