Re: MiniCrash? - Make boot disk ?

Hi Alison

Not finding ntldr can mean the boot.ini is not pointing to the right
partition.

Is this an OEM server i.e Dell that has a first partition for diagnostics
and your boot.ini needs to point to partition 2 ????

Put the HDD into an XP pc (sp2 installed) and disk manager, does this give
any clues to what could be wrong. i.e is there a hidden first partition

Alternative, put another HDD into server install 2003 onto this (first disk
only of SBS) disk manager again to see if any clues..

Im sure you have done this but if stressing may forget to do a bit of
googling...

I found this tool got me out of a jam (had to pay to fix ) but the demo said
it found the prob and full version would fix http://www.ptdd.com/ partition
table doctor of course need to have you server disk in another pc and run
program on it chosing your problem disk.

download a BART CD, an ISO image can be found at www.mcse2000.com which
allows you to boot to a mini-XP CD and then copy files and even have USB
access. more versatile than a DOS boot floppy.

When I rebooted my SBS2k3 standard system I got that darn
"ntldr is missing" message (IDE, not SCSI drive)

Upon inspection (spinrite) I seem to have NO errors or data loss on the
disk.
but I cannot boot it, and I tried makeboot & makembr (on a clone of the
drive) from the SBS setup disk 1 to no avail - same message - so before I
resort to reloading the OS and restoring from an slightly dated tape
:-( , I
suppose I need to make a boot floppy now and see if I can boot the hard
drive
from it. I have copied the ntldr, ntdetect & boot.ini (same partition
order
as me) from a client's system but how do I generate the boot disk with
SBS
2k3 ? Can I use a workstation and make it with XP Pro ?

TIA for any help
