Re: Routing And Remote Access Server

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Thanks for the reply Dave. I figured it out. Instead of manually creating
the rules on the firewall I discoved there was one specifically for VPNS.
Set this up and it worked.

GRE is protocol 47, not port 47. Does your firewall have a setting called
something like "Allow PPTP Pass-through" or anything similar? Opening
port 47 won't do it.

I am having some difficulty setting VPN access up. It will actually
connect but fail on verifying username and password. It comes up with the
error 721. If you look in the event viewer you get this message;

A connection between the VPN server and the VPN client Our (Firewall
Address)has been established, but the VPN connection cannot be completed.
The most common cause for this is that a firewall or router between the
VPN server and the VPN client is not configured to allow Generic Routing
Encapsulation (GRE) packets (protocol 47). Verify that the firewalls and
routers between your VPN server and the Internet allow GRE packets. Make
sure the firewalls and routers on the user's network are also configured
to allow GRE packets. If the problem persists, have the user contact the
Internet service provider (ISP) to determine whether the ISP might be
blocking GRE packets.

I have never had any problems with connecting to other sites it is just
this one. Where this particular RRAS server is. I have forwarded port
1723 to the RRAS Server and also allowed port 47 through the firewall.

Any thoughts? Thanks
