Hi Adam,
Thank you for posting in SBS newsgroup.
I am sorry for the delayed response due to weekend. Please understand that
the newsgroups are staffed weekdays by Microsoft Support professionals to
answer your systems and applications questions. Your understanding is
greatly appreciated!
From your description, I understand you have connected to SBS throughremote desktop of RWW from a remote PC, however, you can not find the local
printer from the remote desktop. If I have misunderstood your concerns,
please do not hesitate to let me know.
In most cases, there're 3 possible causes for such issues:
Cause 1:
The local printer's driver is not for Windows Server 2003, you must install
the driver for the printer on the SBS Server before using the printer
redirection feature in RWW or Remote Desktop.
To do so:
1. Click Start and click Printers and Faxes.
2. Click File menu and click Server Properties.
3. Click Drivers tab and click Add button.
4. Follow the wizard and complete adding the printer driver on the SBS
server.
Cause 2:
This printer's port does not begin with COM/LPT/USB. If this is the point,
please follow KB 302361 to solve the problem.
Printers That Use Ports That Do Not Begin With COM, LPT, or USB Are Not
Redirected in a Remote Desktop or Terminal Services Session
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302361
Cause 3:
Even you're able to install the printer's driver to the SBS machine with a
third party driver disk (file), the printer is not compatible with Windows
Server 2003 operating system.
To make sure that your printer is compatible with Windows Server 2003,
please check the HCL list:

Here is more information about this issue. I want to introduce the
following utility to you.
Terminal Server Printer Driver Redirection Wizard v.1.0.80
This tool will examine a remote or local Terminal Server and determine
whether or not printer redirection has failed. For each printer driver that
failed redirection, the tool will prompt the user to select an installed
driver to create a new NTPrintSubs.inf file.

following KB articles:

If you have any questions or concerns related to this issue, please let me
know.
I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing from you.

| Hi there,
|
| I can't get my head wrapped around the local printing aspect in Remote
| Web Workplace. Maybe someone could give me a clue or two to point me
| in the right direction.
|
| Here's what I understand:
|
| 1) Login to RWW.
| 2) Select your computer from the appropriate list, and click "Optional
| Settings" and make sure "Enable documents on the remote computer to be
| printed on a local printer" is checked.
|
| I did both of those things, and I don't see my local printer in the
| list.
|
| The only thing that I can gather (partly) is that I need to
| map/redirect the local printer to the computer in question by
| installing the drivers on the remote PC and then removing the printer
| from it. But this doesn't make a lot of sense to me: if it's printing
| to a local printer, why would it need drivers on the remote PC?
|
| If someone could please explain this in plain English, that'd be grand.
| Thanks.
|
