"this post confuses me." I assume you were talking about my post, in which
case I dont understand. Surely it doesnt matter which DC is sending my server
GP updates, it is still a "client" receiving the updates. Meaning that it is
the same problem as Arthur had, which is why i was saying that the fix that
cured his did not work on my machine. Anyway, nevermind eh.

You see, my understanding is that ALL DC's 'send out' Group Policy. GP is
maintained between the DC's as a part of AD synchronisation. This is (IMHO)
a _basic_ principle of 'domains', let alone AD.
There are very complex algorithms which to us mere users appear as random
selections as to which DC 'sends out' GP's, and it is quite possible for
your machine to receive it's policies from a different DC than your UserID's
'logonserver'.
I wonder if the 'gpupdate /force' caused a GP sync between the DC's, fixing
the 'problem' in the process.
I wonder if there is a more fundamental problem with policy propogation
between the DC's, leading to the /force requirement.
Wonder I do.

Yes but this file server of ours isnt the DC that "sends" out the group
policies so in effect it is a client as it is receiving group policy
updates
from another server. Glad to hear yours is sorted though. Ill have to keep
researching.

Thank you that worked a treat.

If userenv 1030 was logged it means this profile cant access gpo. Try
to
do
this:
In run command type this: control userpasswords2
Clean all the cache users and passwords there. If this is a user
account
you
dont have to put admin authentication, just click 'manage your
passwords'.

OK I have done as you suggest but the problem still persists.
It is just with this profile on this machine.
The same profile on other machines on the network work fine.

Hi Arthur,
Thanks for your update.
From your reply, the problem may be caused by the client computer.
Please
try removing the problematic computer from Domain and then rejoin it
to
the
domain. To do that, please perform the following steps:
1. In client computer, right-click My Computer and then select
Properties.
2. In Computer Name tab, click Change and the change the computer
from
Domain to Workgroup.
3. Reboot the machine.
4. Log on as a local administrator account
5. In client computer, open IE and run
http://servername/connectcomputer
6. Follow the wizard to finish.
7. Does the situation occur?
Thanks for your time and I look forward to hearing from you.
Best regards,
Crina Li (MSFT)
