I tried your suggestion.
I replaced the files from my SQL Sharepoint restore over the newly
installed MSDE installation and ensured the file names matched the MSDE
names. The MSSQL$SHAREPOINT service restarted without error but I
received the error below when trying to view the companyweb.
Unable to connect to database. Check database connection information
and make sure the database server is running. For tips on
troubleshooting this error, search for article 823287 in the Microsoft
Knowledge Base at http://support.microsoft.com.
1. The MSDE sharepoint service is started
2. IIS is confirmed as not running is isolation mode
3. Unable to perform check 3 as I do not have Enterprise Manger as I no
longer have SQL2000. I'll assume this area is the problem.
I should mention that my backup of the original Sharepoint database was
created using the SBS builtin backup tools. I did not know about the
special Sharepoint tools until I started to panick a bit.
