RE: Setting permissions

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Hello Wael,

Thank you for posting to the SBS Newsgroup.

May I know if you encounter any issue or error message when using the CACLS
command? What is the exact goal you want to achieve, for example, User
Permissions or folder Permission, etc? So we can perform accurate research
or test to find the information for you. Please feel free to let me know
your exact concern.

Since lack of detail information, I found following information regarding
the CACLS command for you:

237701 Cacls.exe Cannot Apply Security to Root of a Volume Mount Point

"Permissions on <FolderName> are incorrectly ordered" error message when
you view the permissions of a subfolder in Windows 2000

We also have several permission tools. Please see:

SubInACL (SubInACL.exe)

SubInACL is a command-line tool that enables administrators to obtain
security information about files, registry keys, and services, and transfer
this information from user to user, from local or global group to group,
and from domain to domain.

Extended Change Access Control List Tool (Xcacls):

This command-line tool sets all file-system security options that are
accessible in Windows Explorer. XcAcls does this by displaying and
modifying the access control lists (ACLs) of files.

Hi

Is there a way to set permissions with a command or using a tool? The
CACLS command is not good enough because it doesn't seem to support all
the windows permissions.

Thanks
