Outlook BCM & SBS 2K3 Server

Currently we have a small network of
1 - Win 2003 SBS Premium Server
3 Win XP Pro SP2 PCs
1 Win XP Tablet SP2
1 Win 2000 Pro SP4
Reading through all the support.microsoft.com website, it directs to:
831747 Overview of the Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2003
update:
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=831747
Reading the instructions, I have
1) Uninstall Office 2003 Professional and reinstall under client
application Outlook 2003 from server
2) Check on Exchange the cached mode is on
3) BCM is updated to latest up as well as Outlook
(version 2.00.4324.00) (11.8010.6568 SP2)
4) I downloaded the client exe and extracted the BCMSBSPATCH-ENG.msp.
Running the executable, the Windows Installer provides me an error:
The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service
because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch
may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program
to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct
upgrade patch.
I am not certain what version or program it needs since no FAQs or
support site on microsoft provide a solution on the issue.
5) Anything in reference to this deployment is vague and minimal in
explanation, procedure steps for prefer deployment on BCM.
For example:
a) Does the BCM get installed on SBS 2003 Server (which seems like it
can't be because Outlook can't be installed on the server. And BCM is a
"plug-in" to Outlook)
b) Does the patch resolve the issue on where the BCM database is
located? How does the BCM get cached for those road warriors who still
need the contact information while traveling (which Exchange does a
great job)
c) I have noticed other issues in regards to this (Profile issue with
Exchange, etc.). But I want a clean walkthrough from BCM installation
on client to database sharing/caching
which is no where to be found. I tihnk for all the questions being
addressed for this topic, it is ironic that Microsoft has not
whitepaged or provided documentation on the matter. It seems very piece
meal steps which any clarifications
Currently,
Due to this 3 days frustration, I have the mdf file of BCM on Win XP
Pro workstation that is on 24/7. It shares the database (which is fine)
but it kills me because our contact information can't be cache due to
the issue mention above. Our company has 3 employees running and on the
go (our company employs a total 4 people). I can't unaffordable to have
no contact information because I do not have an Internet connection
while driving. Could someone help on this issue?
David
