RE: Task will not start Windows 2003 Server after last Security pa

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Do restore from the booted 2003 Server SP1 in normal or "Safe Mode".
I must admit, so far I've been relying on Acronis True Image Server which I
find very useful in emergencies.

Erase the tasks that doesn't run and schedule a new one.
Sometimes my shadow copy does not run due to duplicated scheduling.

If I were you, I'll do the following before doing restore from NTBACKUP.

- Do not touch the currenct sbs 2003 HD and check if it is updated to sp1
- get extra HD to do the testing
- install sbs 2003 first CD
- install sp1 if the problematic sbs 2003 is updated to sp1
- restore NTBACKUP with the system state.

Why am I doing this?
- I can't afford to have dead server
- to test the backups (monthly)

Tried to restore from "Safe Mode" for SBS 2003.
NTBackup is completely useless. Its starts, runs for 15
minutes and hangs before I can even direct it to the
backup file.

Tell me this is not WAD.
Not a happy camper.

As an added issue the day the Security Update was applied was also the date
we had our terrible Wind Storm here in MicroSoft land. I suspect the Server
crashed with a power out at night (My battery backup is good for 3 hours)

Fortunately I backup regularly and I have a SBS backup from the day before
the problem started. Could I just restore the System State? Would this take
care of any corruption?

Thanks

Noticed nightly backups not working. Discovered Task are not running in
Schedule. If I click on a task I get Error "0x80090016 keyset does not exist"
on the MSKB this error refers to NT4 and Explorer 5.0. It directs me to
delete a registry entry that does not exist in Server 2003.

Also read KB 308558, but the task service is running fine.

I restarted the system twice, and yet tasks still don't work.

All happened after last Security Patch last week.

Thanks
