Lanwench,
Thank you for the USB idea. It looks like the backup is backing up more
than halfway through the entire job and it's not crapping out on me. But I
wonder why I can not backup to my desktop. I have no idea what is the
network issue seriously. I am running into problem with our backup server
(using BackupExec 10d) backing up other file server on our network. Its
saying there's netowrk issue somewhere. I saw a post by Leonid Knyshov
regarding alert on BackupExec 10d this morning and that prompted me to act
quickly to run a backup with NTBackup. We are not using DAT72 but it does
not hurt to cover myself just in case
Now I am not going to run into any issue with using NTbackup on SBServer
correct? I just don't want people saying why I did not using SBSbackup
instead on NTbackup. I know with NTbackup it lets me select which folders
to exclude and I understand SBSbackup allow that also. But what SBSbackup
don't allow to exclude is the shadowcopy of the information store. I wonder
why MS makes the claim about the reliability of this functionality and never
mention SBSbackup does not backup shadow copy of the information store. It
does not even give you an option to exclude it. And that worries me a bit.

I connect to the SBS via remote console, log in with the administrator
account which is part of backup operator and domain group. When I
right click on the Domain | Exchange | Delegate Control, the account
have full access the Exchange mailbox. I pull up the NT Backup,
follow the prompts, select all C, D (all exchange folders), E drive
and point it to a network folder which is located on my desktop to
store the backup.bkf file. In about 20 minutes the backup job stops.
I'd guess there are network problems connecting to your workstation, then.
Try the same thing, but to a USB hard drive, or even to a temp location on
the SBS box itself - frankly, I like tape backups, but that's neither here
nor there.
I went to the Scheduler Task on the server and I saw two tasks
listed. The first is the "Backup Small Business Server" and the
second is "ShadowCopyVolume {********}. When I right click on the
"backup small business server", security tab, I saw "system" and
"administrator" groups listed. What I did not see is the account I
log in as to backup the backup job. With that said, I did add the
administrator account to the Administrator Group.
I'm not sure what you mean....
What do you think
is the problem? Would I have the administrator account within the
security tab also?
Don't mess with that.
Thanks,
Helen

Hello:
I have posted the results of using SBS backup before on this
newsgroup and gotten couple of helpful response. After trying out
the suggestions as offered by one of the responder, the outcome
using NTbackup have not been positive and in fact looks worst than
when I first use the SBS backup to backup the new SBS server I have
implemented. I really do appreciate the help here and so I please
don't take it the wrong way when I make any remarks.
Here is the results from using NT backup. When I try using SBS
backup, the outcome is the same:
What (and/or where) are you trying to back up to?
When you run the NTBackup job, who are you logged in as (or, under
which account is the scheduled backup job trying to run)?
