Hi Jalyo,
Thank you for posting in SBS newsgroup.
From your description, I understand you received error message "Cannotconnect to the configuration database" when you access Companyweb. If I
have misunderstood your concerns, please do not hesitate to let me know.
To narrow down the problem, would you please help me confirm you are using
SBS Standard or Premium? If you are using Standard edition, there should
not have SQL been installed. In addition, do you mean Microsoft SQL Server
and Enterprise Manager do not exist in All Programs?
Currently, I want to provide some general steps to troubleshooting the
issue as following, you may try to see if it helps.
1. Please double-check the default application pool in IIS. To do so:
1) Open IIS Manager.
2) Go to Server/Application Pools/DefaultAppPool.
3) Right click DefaultAppPool and click Properties.
4) Click the Identity tab.
5) Make sure the application pool is using "Predefined: Network Service" as
its identity.
6) Run IISReset command and check whether the problem persists.
2. Please check the SharePoint Timer Service. To do so:
1) Open Services in Administrative Tools.
2) Double click SharePoint Timer Service in the right pane.
3) Click Log On tab.
4) Make sure that the service is using "This account: NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK
SERVICE" to log on.
5) Click OK to save the changes.
6) Run IISReset command and check whether the problem persists.
3. Please follow the steps below to check oledb32.dll file permission.
1) Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Ole DB folder.
2) Right click oledb32.dll and click Properties.
3) Click Security tab. Then click Advanced button.
4) Make sure that the "Allow inheritable permissions from the parent to
propagate to this object and all child objects. Include these with entries
explicitly defined here" box has not been checked.
5) Make sure the permission is as follows:
SYSTEM - Full Control.
Administrators - Full Control.
Users - Read/Read & Execute
6) Run IISReset command and check whether the problem persists.
If the problem still persists, please help me collect the following
information:
1. Does the situation occur on all internal client computers? Is OWA or RWW
working? Can you access companyweb using
http://companyweb/default.aspx?
2. Restart the MSSQL$SHAREPOINT service, does this help?
3. Does the situation occur when you access companyweb from external client?
4. On the SBS server, click Start, click Run, type "cmd" and click OK. Type
"osql -E -S <sbsserver>\SHAREPOINT" and press ENTER, do you receive any
error message?
5. Does the Companyweb work before? What changes you have done recently?
