Re: Do I need to reinstall SBS2k3?

What 3rd party (non-Microsoft) applications do you have running on the
server? It appears that something is grabbing ports at system startup and
conflicting with other things that want the same port.

You could try going into Services and changing the startup type for
non-Microsoft services to "disabled" and rebooting again. I'd pop the
Internet network cable if that includes disabling AV or other
security-related services. Make a note of what you change so that you can
undo after narrowing this down. If you find what is causing the conflict,
you can reconfigure that application differently to prevent it.

Dave, here is the update info for you. I have rebooted the server and got
the
following error "At least one service or driver failed during system

when i click on the links in the errors I get that MS cannot find an
answer.
I checked the Services and found that all the "Automatci" starts did
indeed
star along with some of the manual started. I reran CEICW and received the
same results. Here is how I ran CEICW. I excepted the "Don't change" until
I
got to the Firewall then I selected "Enable the Firewall" I made NO
changes
to anyof the screens. then Finished the wizard When it was configuring the
Firewall and the Secure web site I recieved the notice that "An error
occured
while configuring a component. To continue with the wizard and configure
remaining components click OK. to end the wizard without configuring the
remaining components, click cancle." I receive this twice once after the
"Firewall" fails to configure and then after the "Secure web site" fails
to
configure. I then reran the CEICW and just click next at each screen "Do
not
change...." and there were no errorsa nd it saiud that all were
configured.
Am I wrong in choosing "Enable Firwall" when I rerun the CEICW wizard? I
saved the ICWLOG.TXT file after each rerun of CEICW and have them if you
need
to look at them. Company refuses to foot the bill for the Microsoft
support,
so I guess I am stuck with trying to figure out the problem from here.
Again
thanks for all your assistance. Hope to hear from you soon.

I would always recommend against reinstalling except for a security
compromise or as a very last resort. However, in looking back at some of
your previous posts, it looks like you're having quite a few issues with
this install. Only you can make the judgment of whether you want to
throw
in the towel on this and start from scratch. The biggest issues I see
with
a scratch install are dealing with client PCs and dealing with Exchange
Server data. The client PCs will be a very big pain point if you
reinstall,
to say the least.

I don't think anyone is declining to help you, but rather that they don't
know what advice to give. That includes me, too, but here's a little
start
anyway.

This is what I would do in your situation:

1. Reboot the server. Look at the event logs to see if any errors are
logged during the restart that may relate to your issues. If so,
troubleshoot right from those errors. Then, look in Services and make
sure
that all services set to automatic startup are running. If any are not,
you'll need to troubleshoot that too - they will have logged errors when
they failed.

2. See if you have normal network connectivity - in other words, can the
client PCs access the server? Can the server access the Internet? If no
to
either of those, please post the results of an ipconfig /all from the
server. I saw where a previous poster questioned your addressing
configuration, but just re-running the CEICW should fix that.
Incorrectly
configured addressing should not stop the CEICW from running in any way I
can think of off the top of my head.

3. Assuming you don't see any deal-breaker errors logged after the
reboot,
all services start normally, and you have normal connectivity, try to run
the CEICW again. This time, if it fails, please post back the exact
error
in the failure messages that pop up on the screen and in the event logs.
Those 0x errors you posted below don't turn up much of value in a google
search, so I'm hoping you can come up with something more.

If, after spending a few minutes on the above, you can't get the wizard
to
run, I would consider calling Microsoft Support. You'll be able to get
an
engineer who can stay on the phone with you until your problem is
resolved,
rather than getting a bunch of different suggestions from me and others
in
the group who can't see your server and have not had the experience
you're
having. It'll cost a little money, but it'll be worth it if you can
button
up all your issues and get the server running as it should be.

Here is the porblem everytime CEICW is run I get failures when it gets
to
the
"Firewall" and "Secure web site" configuration of the CEICW wizard. I
have
posted this before and didn't get an answer. I need one ASAP. Set up is
SBS2k3 sp1 premium, with all patches and fixes, ISA 2k4, 2 nics
external
nic
goes to a hub that goes to the router (hub there only in order to
connect
laptop to external nic. the external nic goes to the router. I have
looked
at
the icwlog.txt file and find several errors such as0xc0040391,
0x800700b7,
8000fff some are associated with UPNP some with web Listener. I have
looked
into the IIS manager and looked at the default website and found that
"REMOTE" is stopped, when I try to start it it tells me "IIs is unable
to
start the site. Another site may already be using the port you
configured
for
this site. Please select a unused port for this site." It can only be
refering to port 443. the only other site is the default site that
shows
port
443. Please help me on this I am going crazy. I have other issues but
lets
work on this first. If you choose not to help just let me know. I will
understand.
