RE: SBS sp1 upgrade failed

Hi Orlando,

Thanks for posting back.

For current situation, we can not identify which is the root cause. let us
follow below steps to trouble shoot the issue.

First of all, please let me know how you install the SP1. Please make sure
that you followed the instruction on the following page:

Instructions for Installing SP1 for Windows SBS Standard Edition from CD.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/info.aspx?na=40&p=2&SrcDisplayLang=en&Src
CategoryId=&SrcFamilyId=B6F8A4C0-B707-4161-ADEB-44F1B756119F&u=http%3a%2f%2f
go.microsoft.com%2ffwlink%2f%3fLinkId%3d44298

-and-

Instructions for Installing SP1 for Windows SBS Premium Technologies from
CD.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/info.aspx?na=40&p=3&SrcDisplayLang=en&Src
CategoryId=&SrcFamilyId=B6F8A4C0-B707-4161-ADEB-44F1B756119F&u=http%3a%2f%2f
go.microsoft.com%2ffwlink%2f%3fLinkId%3d44602

Make sure that you've installed Win2K3 SP1, WSS 2.0 SP1, Exchange 2003 SP1,
XP SP2 deployment before SBS 2003 SP1.

Then, please let me know, at which step you encounter the failure. Are
there any error info? What did it say?

Please also collect the following information and send them to
v-yanniw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx for research.

1. Have you installed ISA on the SBS server box? Have you upgrade the
Sharepoint MSDE instance to full SQL server?

2. Export the following registry keys to .reg files, rename the files to
..txt files and then send them to me:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSSQLServer\

3. From the \Program files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL$SharePoint\install
directory, find any *.out files with dates around the date/time you were
installing the SBS SP1 and then send them to me.

4. Windows 2003 Service Pack 1: We can check C:\Windows\svcpack.log and run
winver.exe to make sure that it is already with Service Pack 1.

5. Windows XP SP2 for Client Deployment (Q891193): We can check
C:\Windows\KB891193.log.

6. Windows Small Business Server 2003 SP1 (Q885918): We can check
C:\Windows\KB885918.log.

7. All files under folder: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Integration\Windows
Small Business Server 2003\Logs

Please compress all files to a file and mail me at v-yanniw@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I appreciate your time. I am glad to help.

Have a nice day!

Sincerely,

Jenny Wu

ok. I have re-installed Windows Server 2003 and everything seems to be
working.
I install monitoring and tried to install SBS 2003 sp1 and it fail with
the
same error.

Let me tell give you a heads up. Last year i was having problems with the
monitoring component and i installed the msde 2003 sp4 on the server and
removed at a later date when i fixed the monitoring component. Could this
be
the issue that is keeping me from installing sbs 2003 sp1?

Crina,

On my post i mentioned that it would not let me do an integrated
setup
in
the "control panel, add/remove programs" after uninstalling SBS sp1.
I
am
being ask for the product code and when i enter the code it says it
is
invalid.

Hi Orlando,

Thanks for your update.

Let us focus on the reinstall monitoring issue firstly and then
see
how
thing goes.

As I know, for reinstalling monitoring issue, you can try the
following
steps:

1. Start a cmd prompt and change directory to the SP1 download
folder
(or
the SBS03_SP1 folder on the SBS SP1 PKG_CD2).
2. Type "SBS2003-KB885918-SP1-X86-ENU.EXE /x" (with no quotation
marks)
and
press Enter.
3. Specifying a path for the extracted files (such as C:\SBSSP1)
4. Insert the original SBS (non-SP1) Disc 3 into the CDROM.
5. Copy all the folders and the files from the
<CDROM>:\SBS\CLIENTAPPS\SHAREPT folder to the
C:\SBSSP1\cd3\sbs\clientapps\sharept folder.
6. Run the SBS Integrated setup, and when the setup program
prompts
for
the
CD3, point it to the folder created in the previous step.

Hope it helps and I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Crina Li (MSFT)
