If not, it sounds like (in this case) that either you might have a DNS

Also, some people have had success with these type scenarios by adding

I agree it may be swing-related and have sent an email to Jeff but no
reply after 3 days.
It's a Dell alright but SBS2003 SP1 was not OEM - it was separately
purchased full product. Did use Dell Utility to set up disk partitions.

I think this somehow relates to your swing migration, Bill. Can you
repost just the error code from the wsus clientdiag and if you haven't
run it yet, run the the WsusDebugTool.exe /Tool:GetConfiguration
Is this SBS2003 server a Dell OEM built version by chance?

Sorry! Sync is OK. I had the wrong port for proxy server. Still no
clients calling home. I have unticked compression in IIS and am waiting
for clients to appear.

Hi Susan,
I uninstalled WSUS and the WSUS SQL instance, installed hot fix and
reinstalled WSUS and now WSUS will not synchronise with Microsoft (this
is new) and clients still don't call home (original problem).
Clientdiag shows same error. This is very bad :--(

Hotfix is enough though.
One or the other will fix it up.

You mean untick Web Sites, Properties, Service, HTTP compression?

Get that hotfix
Untick the compression in IIS
http://www.wsuswiki.com/ClientFAQ
Absolfreakinglutely a known issue with WSUS. I hit this during the
WSUS beta and SBS's version of WSUS is being tweaked to ensure this
doesn't happen.
For long term purposes get the hotfix.

Hi Susan,
Issue is that clients (including the SBS/WSUS server itself) refuse
to call home, i.e., they never appeared in WSUS admin console. I
know WSUS works, I have six or seven installations that installed
and worked with no tweaking whatsoever, but not on this puppy -
only difference with this server vs others that 'just work' is that
it was swing migrated. This may have a bearing?
I have not requested the hotfix because I was uncertain about its
applicability. I was not sure about 'turning off compression'
either because I didn't know how to do this. I believe this is an
either/or solution. I am willing to try if you can help me a bit.
Cheers,
Bill

Bill.. what's the issues you are having.. WSUS works...
Did you apply the hotfix or uncheck compression?

I have given up trying to make this work on a particular server
and now want to remove all trace of it. Do I merely reverse the
steps used to install on SBS? Is there a risk that something
might get broken during the process?
