You can have as many user *accounts* as you desire, including mailboxes.
User *accounts* are not in any way tied to CALs.
When there are several hundred individual persons accessing the system,
we're clearly beyond the legal limit of 75 User CALs, so the answer to the
legal question would lie in the number of *devcies* that are being used to
access the resources on the SBS, relative to the number of CALs.
However, with a large number of remote users, it's likely that a legal limit
is exceeded.

Before going any further it looks like you need to address this licensing
issue since you seem to have many more users than the 75 limit. How many
user and device CALs do you currently have? Any access requiring
authentication to the SBS requires a valid CAL.

Let me be back on Monday with a more precise question.
Now I know for sure that we are using small business server with exchange
for our email, and we have more than 75 user mailboxes in the AD. Only
the
inhouse users (By inhouse I mean clients using the local LAN in the
office
building, which are less that 15) connect to our SBS directly, and thus
use
MAPI to access the GAL.
Others use the IMAP4/POP3 protocol over the internet to access
mail.domain.com to read/retrieve their emails.
I will investigate furthur and post the question again on Monday.
Basically, I need a way to allow my users to access the Global Address
List.
Since they use IMAP4/POP3, I figured LDAP would be most suitable rather
than
importing/exporting user lists in their contacts. We all use Outlook 2003
with the necessary service packs.
Comments welcome
Thanks.

But, Small Business Server 2003, included Exchange Server 2003
It does not use individual CALS for each individual product, but rather
uses CALs which cover all products and so yes,
You are bound by the 75 user limit

Even for Exchange? Maybe I am wrong about the system.
I believe it is Windows Exchange Server 2003
