Re: Update for ISA 2004 KB916106 killed access to external web sites

So you applied both the original hotfix 'and' the new patch and hit this issue after the new patch?

There was a separate hotfix available for the iTunes issue that didn't have side effects. Something they have done in rolling up a few fixes has caused problems.

Only iTunes.. you'll ultimately need that hotfix.

And yeah.. I'm a little ticked that the ISA folks blew me off when I reported it the first time.

There are work arounds, e.g turn off compression.

See Les's reply, and ditto from me (and others): The patch stops, but doesn't automatically restart, the W3 service, and on SBS it doesn't automatically restart some of the Exchange services. I agree with you that we shouldn't have to be beta testers, but what else is new.

The patch does make certain web sites available that aren't available to unpatched systems (e.g. Delta.com), so is worth installing. You'd be doing us all a service if you'd reinstall the patch and see if your web access is restored once you manualy restart the W3 (and Exchange) service. If you STILL don't have access, then there's a further problem with the patch that needs to be addressed.

Incidentally, before this patch was released, it was a hotfix, and the hotfix had the same problem as the patch--didn't automatically restart the W3 and Exchange services, which I reported at the time.

No, can't be bothered.
Had enough of M$ and PSS in particular at the moment.

I removed it, everything is fine. I not wasting my time on it. If Microsoft wants me to be a beta tester they can pay me !
A friend found the same issue on one of his installs so other people will come across it. They can waste their time with M$.

Not seeing issues like that with the patch.. reinstall it ..call PSS

Don't remove it.. get to the bottom of the issue.

We're seeing issues where it's not rebooting when it hsould.

Installed via WSUS with a manual reboot. After the reboot clients could not access external web sites (workstations also rebooted).

ISA returns a DNS error to the browsers. No errors seen when running ISA monitor, i.e. no access denied etc.

Removed the update and everything works.

Not looking for a solution, just advising a problem.
