Hi Sal,
Thanks for using the SBS newsgroup.
From your description, I understand that you want to know if we can setdifferent permissions to top level site for user account. If I am off base,
please don't hesitate to let me know.
The user account we can add to the Sharepoint site must be domain user
account. In other word, they must use internal email address. We can set
different permissions for different top level site or subsites so that
these users can only access sites that they have permissions.
You can configure as follows:
1. Go to the Home page of the top-level site (or some specific subsite).
Click Site Settings link.
2. Click the "Go to Site Administration" link.
3. Click "View site collection user information" link.
4. Select one user who you want to assign site administrator permission.
5. Click the "Edit user information" button and check the "Site collection
administrator" link.
What is more, you can perform the following steps to check the user account
permissions:
1. Visit the sub-web as an administrator. For example, the address is:
http://wssserver/subwebname
2. Visit the following address directly:
http://wssserver/subwebname/_layouts/1033/siteusrs.aspx
3. This brings the Manage Site Collection Users page. Check on this page if
this user is listed.
Hope above information helps! I am happy to be of assistance to you and
look forward to your reply!
Have a nice day!
Sincerely,
Jenny Wu

GM,
I have created a new top leval sharepoint site on my SBS. This site is for
new busiess that I am working on with some individuals, and I wanted touse
it to work on this project, i.e. names, logos, tasks, etc.AOL.
I have the site up, but can not give them any user rights because they do
not have internal email address but external one, i.e. yahoo, gmail, or
and
Can they be given access using external email, or am I forced to give them
internal emails? If I do give them internal, can they only view this site
not my company site (I have all my clients data VERY senative data there).can
Can I host the site eslewhere and make it password only so that only we
use it?
Thanks in advance for your help.
