Re: problems modifying company web

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for your information.

From the IIS log, I found 401.5 error code. The status code means that
Authorization failed by ISAPI/CGI application. For current situation, let
us check the following settings:

1. Please open IIS console, navigate to Web Sites -> companyweb, right
click it to open its Properties page, under ISAPI filters tab, please
ensure you have not install any other filters here. By default, there are
only two filters list here. They are SHRPTFLT and STSFLTR and SHRPTFLT's
priority is High. Also please ensure the paths to these filters as follows:

-- c:\inetpub\sbsflt\shrptflt.dll
-- C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server
Extensions\60\bin\stsfltr.dll

If there are more filters, please delete them.

2. Please navigate to the "Web Service Extensions" node, on the right pane,
ensure the Windows Sharepoint Services extension status is allowed. And
double click the "Windows Sharepoint Services" to open its Properties page.
Under Required Files tab, please ensure the Windows Sharepoint Services
extension configured with the following files and the status should be
"Allowed":

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server
Extensions\60\isapi\_vti_adm\admin.dll
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server
Extensions\60\isapi\_vti_auth\author.dll
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server
Extensions\60\isapi\owssvr.dll
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server
Extensions\60\isapi\shtml.dll

3. After verifying, please run command "iisreset" (no quotation marks) to
restart the IIS to take effect the change.

Then please test the issue again and let me know the result.

If the issue persists, please help me collect the following information:

1. Please help me capture a screen shot of the error message for analyze
(the image you pasted in the newsgroup in your previous response shows
nothing).

2. Please help me collect a screen shot of the "Web Service Extensions" for
analyze.

3. Also please help me collect the IIS log again.

4. Please help me collect IIS metabase for analyze.

To collect the IIS Metabase:

a. Download the IIS Resource Kit tools from the following page:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=56FC92EE-A71A-4C73-
B628-ADE629C89499&displaylang=en
b. Install it, run MBExplorer (Metabase Explorer)
c. Right click the "LM" node and choose "Export to file".
d. Specify a file name, specify the password and finish the export.
e. Send the file and the password to me.

Please compress all files and send to my working mailbox:
v-yanniw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

I appreciate your time!

Have a nice day!

Sincerely,

Jenny Wu

1) User is a member of Administrator group
2) User has Administrator privileges to Group
3) Add contact list, NT Authentication window pops up
which refuses any logins on our domain and takes me to a
page which says

Access denied. You do not have permission to perform this action or
access this resource. You can request below that the owner give you
access to the resource.

You are currently logged in as:
XXXX\YYYYY

This login is a member of the Administrators group

The strange thing is this login has a capitalised first name
and we have all our logins as lowercase. I have deleted the user and
recreated it but it made no difference.

4) 192.168.16.2 is IP of server
I started the logging for company web as the default website is turned off
(I turned it back on but it made no difference)

thanks very much for your help

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for using the SBS newsgroup.

From your description, I understand the issue to be: when users try to
create a Contacts List, he received "Access denied" error message. If I
am
off base, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Let us perform the following steps to trouble shoot the issue:

1. Please logon the SBS server box, open Companyweb site, navigate to
Site
Settings-->Manager Users, can you see the user act as an Administrator
for
WSS site? If not, please let the user join the Administrator site group.

2. navigate to Site Settings--> Go to Site Administration' Manage Site
Groups, Click the Administrator group to check if the user listed here
and
also click Edit Site Group Permissions menu to ensure the Administrator
group has full permissions for the WSS site.

3. Then please test to create a Contacts list, what is the result?

If the issue persists, please create a new group and grant Full List
Rights
and Personal Rights and then add a user to the group to test the issue,
what is the result?

If the issue persists, please help me collect some information to isolate
the issue:

1. Please help me collect a screen shot off the error message when user
try
to create contacts list and send to me for analyze.

2. Please try to use an administrator account to create other type
document
list, what is the result?

3. Please create a new user account with Add user wizard with domain
admin
permissions, add it to the Administrator group of the WSS site, then
please
test the issue again, what is the result?

4. Please enable IIS logging and reproduced the issue and collect IIS log
for analyze.

To enable IIS log:

a. Open IIS MMC, right click Default Web Site and then click Properties.
b. Click Website tab and then check Enable logging.
c. Stop the Default Website and rename the existing IIS log files under
C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles.
d. Restart the Default Website and try to reproduce the problem.
e. Wait about 15 minutes, then go to the following folder:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles and send them to me.

Note: please let me know your SBS server IP address.

Please compress all files and send to my working mailbox:
v-yanniw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

I appreciate your time. I am happy to be of assistance to you and look
forward to your reply.

Have a nice day!

Sincerely,

Jenny Wu

Hi

We have an sbs server which we set up six months ago, and configured
companyweb
without any problems. However now we want to add a new contact list and
when we try to add it we get a log in box. Every possible username and
password
fails and we get the access denied message. I have set the users to
administrator,
reset the owner of the site and everything else I can think of but to no
avail.
Trying to add from the server as the server administrator also fails.

We are at a loss, as before this we had changed nothing.

I would be grateful for some assistance.
thanks

jc
