RE: OWA yeilds 404 Page not found Inside and Outside

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

Hi Eric,

Thanks for using the SBS newsgroup.

I am sorry for the delayed response due to weekend. Please understand that
the newsgroups are staffed weekdays by Microsoft Support professionals to
answer your systems and applications questions. Your understanding is
greatly appreciated!

From your description, I understand the issue to be: you received 404 page
can not be found error message when you tried to access the OWA site. And
the issue also happens on Companyweb site, Monitoring, remote site and so
on. If I am off base, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Before we go any further, I suggest you re-run the CEICW (configure e-mail
and internet connection wizard -> Connect to the internet) to configure the
SBS internet settings. Please ensure input correct DNS information. Open
Server Management console and navigate to 'To Do List'. Click 'Connect to
the Internet' and you will see the wizard. I suggest that you refer to the
following KB article to configure the network connection:

825763 How to configure Internet access in Windows Small Business Server
2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=825763

Then please test the issue to see if the issue be fixed.

If the issue persists, based on my experiences, the issue could be led by
the following possibilities:
1. DNS resolution issue
2. IIS configuration issue
3. Site corruption

In order to isolate the problem, please help to gather the following
information:

1. Go to the 'monitoring and reporting' snap-in in the Server Management
console. Do you see the same error page? Please capture a screen-shoot of
the error. Send the picture to me.

2. What URL you used to access the OWA site, Companyweb site, and RWW site
from the SBS server box? Please try to use the URL: http://localhost,
http://localhost/exchange, http://localhost/remote to access the sites, and
let me know the result. Also please use the URL: http://internalIP,
http://internalIP/exchange, and http://internalIP/remote to test the let me
know the result. Please also capture some screen shot of the error messages.

3. Please enable IIS logging and reproduced the issue (access the OWA site,
Companyweb site, and RWW site) and collect IIS log and IIS metabase.
To enable IIS log:

a. Open IIS MMC, right click Default Web Site and then click Properties.
b. Click Website tab and then check Enable logging.
c. Stop the Default Website and rename the existing IIS log files under
C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles.
d. Restart the Default Website and try Server Activesync to reproduce the
problem.
e. Wait about 15 minutes, then go to the following folder:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles and send them to me.

Note: please let me know your SBS server IP address.

To collect the IIS Metabase:

a. Download the IIS Resource Kit tools from the following page:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=56FC92EE-A71A-4C73-
B628-ADE629C89499&displaylang=en
b. Install it, run MBExplorer (Metabase Explorer)
c. Right click the "LM" node and choose "Export to file".
d. Specify a file name, specify the password and finish the export.
e. Send the file and the password to me.

Please compress all files and send to my working mailbox:
v-yanniw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

I appreciate your time! I am happy to be of assistance to you and look
forward to your reply.

Have a nice day!

Sincerely,

Jenny Wu

While trying to reslove this myself, I have found that it is not just the
Exchange page that is giving 404 results, but every page: company web,
monitoring, remote, etc.

I am running SBS 2003 Premium. ISA is not installed. I did not try OWA
before upgrading to premium; one big install. No matter how I try to
access
remote email, I always get a 404 Page not Found error. I have tried on
the
server as administrator, on an XP Client as administrator, power user
and
standard user. Outlook 2003 works fine.
