It also looks like the external nic is having 2 IP's, another reason

Yes - IPv6 was quite deliberately installed - 'Internet Transports'

of the subjects for my MSc. I like to be IP friendly.

I can change the subnet quite easily but I'd be interested to learn
why
such
a long mask is advantageous - NAT firewall?

I've tried both the Internet IP and the FQDN without success. My
internet
IP is not fixed - I rely on DYNDNS.com either to retrieve the IP or
to
specify a relative FQDN which works well with other customers
servers,
e.g.:
https://server_name.dynalias.net/remote. At present it's set to the
FQDN.

Also, I would use Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 for the 10.x.x.x
subnet.

When you created the Web Server Certificate in CEICW, did you use
your
WAN
IP address (the one that is assigned by your ISP), or did you use a
FQDN
(yourdomain.com)?

Are you using the SBS server as the DHCP server for the LAN?

Yes - exactly so. In fact the router has the Server as its
DMZ
device
as
well has having those ports forwarded specifically.

My laptop connected into a spare port on the internet router
returns
the
same error. It having an IP of 10.0.0.3 and the server
10.0.0.2.

The only odd thing is that if you try
http://external_IP/router_start_page
you get a router logon error almost as though the Server were
directing
traffic back to the router!

I have a simple problem with two of the servers I maintain.
I've
run
the
ICEW and RAS wizards sucessfully on both, checked that I
have
remote
destop
access to both the Server and one of the Clients and
forwarded
all
ports
(via
DMZ) to the Servers' external NICs but in both cases any
attempt
to
connect
via RWW or Remote Desktop just results in a HTTP 404 page
cannot
be
found
error.

There are no errors in the Servers' logs.
