Hi Thomas,.
Thanks for using the SBS newsgroup.
From your description, I understand that you want to know how to optimize
the Exchange server and what the value should be set to the registry key:
HeapDecommitFreeBlockThreshold. If I am off base, please don't hesitate to
let me know.
Yes, It is recommended that we set the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager
HeapDeCommitFreeBlockThreshold = REG_DWORD 0x00040000
Note: If On computers that have less than one gigabyte of RAM, do not use
the HeapDecommitFreeBlockThreshold registry key unless intense memory
fragmentation is occurring.
Please take look at the following article to get more detail information:
315407 XADM: The "HeapDecommitFreeBlockThreshold" Registry Key
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=315407
Also there are other optimization methods you can use:
1) Set msExchESEParamCacheSizeMax = 147456 (this will set the cache to
576mbs) See:
266768 XSTR: How to Modify the Store Database Maximum Cache Size
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=266768
2) Set MsExchESEParamLogBuffers = 500 (refer to the above article to find
the property)
3) Set MsExchESEParamMaxOpenTables = 27600
4) Go to the following key, create or modify the value outlined:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\Parameters
System
Value Name: Initial Memory Percentage
Value Type: REG_DWORD
Value Data: 0xa

and Exchange 2000 Server

Hope above information helps! I am happy to be of assistance to you and
look forward to your reply.
Have a nice day!

Hi!
Ok, I've found out by reading this forum that it is not recommended to set
the 3GB and USERVA=3030 switchs on my SBS2003SP1 server with 2GB of RAM,
what about the HeapDecommitFreeBlockThreshold = 0x00040000 (HEX) that thein
Exchange Best Practices Tool recommends me to set? Is that recommended?
We are experiencing some trouble with our Exchange server so I'm looking
to optimizations at the moment.
Best Regards
Thomas
