Curious... have you been monitoring TCP/IP traffic to/from the NICs on this
server?
The reason I ask, if it's not obvious, is I'm wondering if it's been rooted.

I have a SBS 2003 server with service pack 1 applied (Tyan, single CPU, 4gb
ram, on a RAID 10).
A few days ago I discovered the system process was running at 100%.
Even in safe mode the system process is at 100%.
I used a process tree viewer to see if any drivers were causing the issue,
but the process tree viewer also reported that only the system process was
at
100%.
When I tried 'sfc /scannow' I was asked to insert the CDs, but when I use
my
SBS 2k3 with SP1 CDs SFC says they are not valid? Should I use my SBS cds
that don't have SP1 then apply SP1 afterwards?
I also discovered a problem with the MFT bitmap - unallocated space was
marked as allocated (which is apparently rare?). I have run a boottime
scandisk (which claimed to fix the problem) and am currently running a
full
(O&O) defrag including page file and MFT. Should I be running a 'chkdsk'
from
the recovery console?
I am also considering starting in safe mode and running the defrag.
I have scanned for viruses and spyware but found none.
Apart from Trend Micro and printer software the server also runs some
third
party software, but the third party software is not installed and is not a
service. So I don't think any of the add on software could be the issue.
I'm trying to avoid a rebuild and am even considering contacting MS
support
since it is very important. Before I did I was wondering if anyone had any
suggestions?
