Re: Still Trying...Very trying

There are a couple of misconfigurations on your NICs.

1. the 2 NICs should not be in the same subnet.
2. change the WAN address to static You can still leave the router with DHCP
enabled. Just exclude the IP for the WAN or give it an address outside the
DHCP scope.
3. The DNS entry on the LAN NIC should be left blank and the default GW
should be the WAN IP.
4. The DNS entry on the WAN should point to the LAN IP (configure the DNS
forwarders with your ISP DNS servers.

After you have made the changes, rerun the Connection Wizard again.

You also need to configure your router to forward traffic to your server's
WAN NIC. At a minimum you need to forward port 25 traffic to get your mail
working (110 if you also want POP3 to work).

Do you want OWA and other web access to work? If so, you need to forward
those ports as well. The alternative is to place the WAN NIC of your server
into the DMZ or publish it(if your router has those options).

Ok...the network Nic is

DHCP enabled: No
Ip Address: 192.168.254.3
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.254.254
DNS Servers: 192.168.16.2

the local area connection is ...

DHCP enabled: No
Ip Address: 192.168.254.3
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway:
DNS Servers: 192.168.16.2
Primary WINS Server: 192.168.16.2

The router/modem has DHCP enabled....I can change this but it disables
wireless facilities when i do. in any case my mx record is pointing to the
satic IP which is actually the modem /router not the server....I feel like
I'm soooooo close to getting this right finally....just need a further
hint
or two

Ok... I have SBS2003 newly set up on a system with 2 NICs. The first
nic
is
connected to an ADSL modem/router which connects to the internet and
through
my ISP I have a static IP. Also through another ISP I registered a
domain
name and got them to create an mx record which I assigned to my static
IP....but it would seem that the static IP is assigned to my modem
router
not
my server...what am I doing wrong? Or how do i fix it so that i can
receive
mail on my server?
