Dear Customer,
Thank you for posting to the SBS Newsgroup.
I understand that you encounter HTTP 400 error message when trying to
access Backup Snap-in on the SBS 2K3 Server. If I have misunderstood your
issue, please let me know.
General speaking, the steps in KB articles will not cause any critical
issues. For your case, I think you have found the right KB article and I
suggest perform the steps described in KB 842693 first to see how it goes.
I am always here and glad to be of further assistance if the issue
persists.
If the issue persists, please help me to gather following information for
further troubleshooting:
1. When did the issue occur? Did you encounter this issue before? If no,
did you make any changes on the SBS Server recently? For example, install
any updates or software?
2. Just to double confirm, can you access RWW (https://localhost/remote)
and OWA (https://localhost/exchange) on the SBS Server Console?
3. On the SBS Server, open IE -> Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced ->
Uncheck the box "Show Friendly HTTP error messages". Close IE and open it
again. Type http://localhost/backup. Type the full error message word by
word to the Newsgroup for accurate research.
4. Is your Backup running well?
Please take your time to perform the steps and gather the information. If
you have any updates, please feel free to let me know. I am looking forward
to hearing from you!
Best regards,
Brandy Nee

I am getting the error referenced in subject line. I know after reading KB
article: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=842693 that it is related to
the loopback address is absent or not set to the default Web site; theof
article does describe how to fix it. My question is this: is there ever a
time when I wouldn't want this configured? Our chief network admin is out
the country and has left me in charge. I am new to network admin andhesitate
changing any server settings if there is a possibility that it will create
more problems. I just want to check in case someone else has had problems
after configuring this. Has anyone run into operational problems after
configuring this setting?
