Hi Dave and Brandon,
It really doesn't matter if you install ISA first than SQL SP4 or the other
way around.
It hasn't got anything to do with the ISA 2004 MSDE either, because the SBS
installer will apply the SP4 for the ISA 2004 MSDE automagically.
SQL SP4 can only be applied to SQL server 2000 instances, like the default
instance and the upgraded Sharepoint. The SQL SP4 can't even be applied to
MSDE instances. There has always been difference between the SQL
Servicepacks for the SQL server instances and the instances that are using
the Desktop Engine (MSDE).
About Exchange SP2, I would suggest to install that before the SQL SP4, to
avoid the annoying 'do you want to replace the newer file' blah blah.

Hi Brandon - I'm just speculating here because I don't think thisSP
conversation has come up before, including during the SP testing or
preparation of those documents. IMO, it makes sense to install ISA 2004
before the SQL SP because that way, if ISA is using MSDE for logging, the
SQL SP will be applied to the ISA MSDE instance. For that reason, I'm
voting for the smallbizserver.net document (not to mention that a huge
number of people have installed the SP successfully with that document).
My recommendation on the Exchange question (this is just my personal
opinion):
If you're running the RTM of Exchange (no SPs), I'd install SBS SP1 but
substitute Exchange SP2 for Exchange SP1 in the process.
If you're running Exchange SP1, I'd install SBS SP1 and skip the Exchange
step. Once you're sure the SBS SP install is stable, install ExchangeSP2.
And of course if you're already on Exchange SP2, just install SBS SP1 andit
skip Exchange altogether.

WHY does smallbizserver.net suggest installing ISA 2004 before SQL SP 4
when updating a SBS server with SP1? Microsoft suggests installing the
SQL update before ISA.
Also, if I already have Exchange SP1 installed, do I have to reinstall
during this update or can I skip that step?
