Hi Jenny,

While I was trying to get the information to you, I managed to solve the
problem using this link:

E-mail to external recipients with the same e-mail domain causes NDR
messages when using the POP3 Connector
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;300681

It suggest's 2 methods, I decided to use the 2nd one and it worked a treat.

I would however, like to say thanks for all your help on this one, you
have
been great.

I'm still a newbie to sbs server, so may call upon your help, advice and
experience later !

Many thanks again.

Hi Jenny,

Thanks for your help on that one.

After lots of messing around with settings on pop3 connection manager and
also internet and email connection manager, I've finally managed to get
me
ntlworld.com emails to download from their mail server at
smtp.ntlworld.com.

I'm now also able to send emails to anyone, however when I try to send an
email to someone to the same doamin address as me (eg.
bob.jones@xxxxxxxxxxxx) then I get a message from the System Admin saying
that the message could not be delivered because the recipient could not
be
found.

I think this is because the exchange server is trying to send the email
internally rather than to the internet to my isp's mail server which is
pop.ntlworld.com (for incoming) and smtp.ntlworld.com (for outgoing).

Is there anyway around this?

Hi Mark,

Thanks for using the SBS newsgroup.

From your description, I understand the issue to be: the emails
disappear
on the ISP mail server when using pop3 connector to receive emails. If
I
am
off base, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Suggestion 1:
=================
Actually SBS 2003 POP3 Connector does not provide this feature to
leave
a
copy of the emails on the ISP mail server. However in some
troubleshooting
scenarios, we may need to do this. We provide a registry value to
control
POP3 Connector to leave a copy of the emails:

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious
problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system.
Microsoft
cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using
Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

Note: These steps apply to Windows Small Business Server 2003 that
receives
e-mail using the Pop3 connector. These steps do not apply to computers
that
are running Windows Small Business Server 2003 that receive e-mail
messages
by using SMTP.

1. Click "Start", click "Run", type "regedit" (without the quotation
marks)
in the "Open" box, and then click "OK".
2. Locate and then click the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SmallBusinessServer\Network\POP3
Connector

3. Double-click the DeleteFromServer value in the right pane. Change
the
DWORD value to 0 (0x00000000). Click OK to save the settings.
4. Exit Registry Editor.

After you follow these steps, the Pop3 connector will leave a copy on
the
ISP''s server when downloading e-mail. However, when each time POP3
Connector downloads emails, it will download all of the emails no
matter
whether they are new or not. This is a by design in SBS 2003.

Suggestion 2:
=================
Do you mean that users still can not receive these messages after the
messages disappear in the ISP mail server? If it is situation, I would
like
to suggest that you follow below steps to re-configure the mail server
to
see if it helps.

A. Click Start, click Server Management.
B. Click To Do List and then click "Connect to the Internet".
C. Click Next, select "Do not change connection type" and click Next.
E. Select Enable firewall and click Next.
F. Ensure E-mail is selected and Click Next.
G. Go through the steps until the Internet E-mail page shows, select
"Enable Internet e-mail" and click Next.
H. Select either "Use DNS to route e-mail" or "Forward all e-mail to
e-mail
server at your ISP". If you select the latter, enter the ISP SMTP
server.
Click Next.
I. Specify to receive e-mail using one or both of the following
methods:

- POP3 Mailboxes
- Exchange

Click Next.

J. Enter your e-mail domain name and click Next. The e-mail domain name
should match the mail exchanger (MX) resource record maintained at your
ISP. This must be a registered Internet domain name.
K. Go through the steps to finish the wizard.

It is greatly recommended that you refer to the he KB 825763 to
configure
the network connection and email server:

825763 How to configure Internet access in Windows Small Business
Server
2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=825763

If you configured the mail server as a smarthost, you need continue
configure as follows:

A. Locate the node: Server Management -> Advanced Management -> Pop3
Connector Manager
B. Click the link "Open Pop3 Connector Manager", click Add button to
input
pop3 server information, user account, mailbox type and so on.
C. If the mailbox type is Global Mailbox, you need configure Routing
Rule
to route emails to individual mailboxes.

Then please try to test the issue again, what is the result?

Server

http://support.microsoft.com/?id=325464

If the issue persists, please kindly help me collect the following
information:

1. Please let me know where the emails are delivered. Does it locate in
Pickup folder, Incoming folder, Failed mail folder or Badmail folder.
You
can check these folders as follows:

The Connector for POP3 Mailboxes service downloads e-mail messages and
stores them in the following folder:
%PROGRAMFILES%\Microsoft Windows Small Business
Server\\Networking\POP3\Incoming Mail

%PROGRAMFILES%\Exchsrvr\Mailroot\vsi 1\PickUp

%PROGRAMFILES%\Microsoft Windows Small Business
Server\\Networking\POP3\Failed Mail

%PROGRAMFILES%\Exchsrvr\mailroot\vsi 1\Badmail
*Note: The Badmail folder is disabled in Microsoft Exchange Server 2003
Service Pack 1 (SP1).

Where do these pop3 emails delivered to? Please check them.

2. Please set Logging level of the POP3 Connector to Maximum to get
more
verbose information for analyze. You can refer to the following steps:

a. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange and
then
click System Manager.
b. Expand Connectors, right-click POP3 Connector Manager and click
Properties.
c. On the Troubleshooting tab, set Logging level to Maximum.
d. Click OK.
e. Restart the Microsoft Connector for POP3 Mailboxes. To do so:
A. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools and click Services.
B. Locate and right-click the Microsoft Connector for POP3 Mailboxes
service, click Restart.
f. On Exchange System Manager right-click POP3 Connector Manager and
click
Properties, on the Scheduling tab, click Retrieve Now.
g: Wait for 20 minutes and please send the application logs (please
open
Event Viewer, save a text copy of the application log file to .evt
format
file) to me at v-yanniw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hope above information helps! I am happy to be of assistance to you and
look forward to your reply.

Have a nice day!

Hi Guys,

I'm quite new to SBS 2003 and have a small problem that I hope someone
could
help with.

I have used the POP3 connection manager to allow exchange to download
my
emails from my ntlworld.com email account. This is an email account
that
is
provided through my ISP.

I am able to go online to the ntlworld.com website and check my emails
from
there and it seems to be that it is always empty even when I know
emails
have been sent to me.

After a few tests such as turning the server off, asking various people
to
send me emails, then logging onto a client machine and accessing my
emails
through the ntlworld.com website, I could see that the emails where
there.
When I turned my server on, left it running for about 15 minutes, then
checked the website again, my emails had vanished.

Where have my emails gone and how can I get access to them?

They are not being delievered to my Outlook mailbox on a client machine
even
though it looks as though exchange has downloaded my emails from
ntlworld.com.

Sending mail through Outlook dosn't seem to be an issue, as I also
have
a
hotmail address where I can send an email to myself to test. What's
even
more bizarre is if I send an email to myself at my ntlworld.com email
address, exchange will deliver it back to me?!

What have I done wrong?! Any help on this would be greatly
appreciated.

Many thanks,
Mark
