gotta chime in, as a nodding head.
I don't use internal modems in servers and this would be as true for an
internal ADSL card as it is for POTS. Couple of reasons.
If the device needs to be reset you're looking at a full powerdown of the
server. NOT just a restart but power down, wait 30sec+ (for capacitors to
discharge), power up.
Isolation of the telephone line. I've seen motherboards fried by a lightning
strike coming into a modem. It's not impossible with an external device
either, but generally the external device will offer better isolation.
Stability and availability of the IP interface to the ISP. An internal
device, or even Windows native PPPoE, is not available during the earliest
stages of the boot process. An AD DC likes to have all network interfaces
available to the boot process.
Two NICs, simple NAT router, ISA. (Sorry, that's Premium)
2nd choice. Single NIC SBS Standard, true firewall device.

Hi,
I am changing from NT4 to SBS2003 Std. Currently I have an ADSL PIC card
for
connection to the internet, with a single NIC are connection to network
hub.
Would this same setup be acceptable for SBS? or would you suggect two NIC
with one connected to a ADSL router?
Many thanks
.
