Hi RG,
Thanks for using the SBS newsgroup.
From your description, I understand that you found the MSDTC event warning53258 on the SBS 2003 SP1 server box. If I am off base, please don't
hesitate to let me know.
Regarding the MSDTC events, the Distributed Transaction Coordinator (DTC)
system service is responsible for coordinating transactions that are
distributed across multiple computer systems and resource managers, such as
databases, message queues, file systems, or other transaction-protected
resource managers. The DTC system service is required if transactional
components are configured through COM+. It is also required for
transactional queues in Message Queuing (also known as MSMQ) and SQL Server
operations that span multiple systems.
Based on my investigation, this issue is related to the security
enhancement in SP1 for Windows Server 2003. That event will appear when the
Network Service has no proper permission on that registry entry. To resolve
the issue, there are several ways. Of course, you can ignore this level of
warning message if you do not mind to see them in Event log.
Let us refer to the steps below to check the security settings for MSDTC:
1. Run regedit.exe, locate the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSDTC
2. Right click the MSDTC key, click Permissions, click the Advanced button,
then double click the Network Service account, make sure that the "Set
Value" and "Create Subkey" permissions are enabled.
If the problem persists, run dcomcnfg, expand Component services, expand
Computers, click to highlight My Computer, right click it, click
Properties, click the MSDTC tab, click Security Configuration and make sure
that the "Network DTC access" and "Enable XA Transactions" options are
unchecked. Run services.msc and make sure that the Distributed Transaction
Coordinator service is started. After that, check to see if the event still
occurs. If so, enable the "Network DTC access".
Hope above information helps. I am happy to be of assistance to you and
look forward to your reply.
Have a nice day!
Sincerely,
Jenny Wu
