Re: WS keeps going "offline"

I'd check the logs on both the server and workstation, but I still bet it's
hardware. I would try a different port in the switch, different cables, and
set the NIC to the appropriate settings rather than "auto sense" (for
example, 100 MBPS Full Duplex).

Another thing to try when the PC goes offline is to r-click the NIC in
Network Connections and click Repair. That clears the cached network
information, refreshes the IP, etc. I've see a number of laptops that have
the problem you describe, which I've blamed on being connected to numerous
different networks at various times. However, I've seen it much less
frequently with newer NICs and drivers.

I'm thinking that after a reinstall, you've ruled out both software on the
workstation and a corrupt machine account on the server, which leaves
hardware.

I've got a machine that keeps going "offline" which is very irritating for
users with shares. We have replaced NIC and even the Network cable. and
out of desperation my colleague reinstalled the machine. After this the
problem was gone for a moment.

Anyone any Idea where to look for specifically?

many thanks

Dennis
