I followed the below to a T, and when I got to the "copy to" it's not
available for the suer profile on domain A, its there and selecteable, but
the button for "copy to" is grayed out and cannot be selected.

Does it matter that the machine is not connected to domain A?

Hmmm. Not sure. Is that not an option? Are you 100% sure you are *not*
logged in using that user's domain account, but are logged in as the local
administrator or domainA administrator account?

Is there something else I can try?

Newbie alert.

User with a laptop connected to SBS domain A needs to leave domain A
and join SBS 2003 domain B. I understand I have to leave domain A and
go back to a Workgroup prior to adding to domain B.

The issue I am running into is that after leaving domain A, back to a
workgroup, when I do server/connectcomputer to join domain B, the
user profile from domain A is not available to migrate.

Any ideas?

While the computer is still in domain A, create a local user account.
Log in as the local user account.
Log out.
Log back in as an account with admin rights (but *not* the real domain
user)
Go to control panel, system, advanced....in User Profiles, click the
Settings button
Select the domain user's profile, click on Copy To, and browse to the new
local user's c:\documents and settings\username folder.
Click OK.
Click the Change button in "Permitted to use" and select the
domain\username
account you just copied [1]

Close out.

Log in as the local user and make sure the settings look right. If so,
you
should be good to go...disjoin the computer from the domain, making sure
you
know the local admin credentials....and then run the /connectcomputer
script. When asked which local account settings you want to assign to the
'new' domain user on domain B, select the local user you just created.

[1] To be honest, I'm not entirely sure that step is necessary, but I
usually include it.
