RE: Undeliverable mail

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hi Perry,

Thanks for your post back.

When the message in the pickup folder, have you used Notepad to open the
mail message? What in To address line in the heard information?

Please reproduced the issue again, and copy the file for me for analyze.

Have you set Logging level of the POP3 Connector to Maximum when you
reproduced the issue, please check the pop3 connection process in
Application log using Event viewer.

Also if you have enabled Messaging tracking log, you can try to trace the
message in Message Tracking Center in ESM.

You can also reproduce the issue again (Stop the SMTP Virtual Server, send
a email from internet, download the pop3 email, start the SMTP Virtual
Server), and email me the application log, message tracking log and the
file in pickup folder for analyze.

I appreciate your time and efforts to the issue.

Have a nice day!

Sincerely,

Jenny Wu

Hi Perry,

Thanks for your information. From your message tracking log, I find the
sender louise@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx send email directly to Administrator
(PerryJ@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx) not any record for recipient
(alisonb@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx). Let us perform the following steps to further
trouble shoot the issue:

I. Please try to Re-register the POP3 Connector event sink to see if it
helps.

To do this, click Start, click Run, type %programfiles%\microsoft windows
small business server\networking\pop3\imbreg.exe, and then click OK.

II. Then please set Logging level of the POP3 Connector to Maximum to get
more verbose information. To do so:

a. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange and
then
click System Manager.
b. Expand Connectors, right-click POP3 Connector Manager and click
Properties.
c. On the Troubleshooting tab, set Logging level to Maximum.
d. Click OK.
e. Restart the Microsoft Connector for POP3 Mailboxes. To do so:
A. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools and click Services.
B. Locate and right-click the Microsoft Connector for POP3 Mailboxes
service, click Restart.
f. Please try to send mail to a non-existing user account to reproduced
the
issue.
g. On Exchange System Manager right-click POP3 Connector Manager and click
Properties, on the Scheduling tab, click Retrieve Now.
h: Wait for 20 minutes and please send the application logs to me at
v-yanniw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

III. Also please stop the SMTP Virtual Server (not the service), initiate
a
POP3 download, then please go to the folder
%PROGRAMFILES%\Exchsrvr\Mailroot\vsi 1\PickUp, Can you see the message is
placed here? If yes, please also mail me the message file under the Pickup
folder.

You can use Notepad to open the mail message and view the content. The
main thing you are looking for here is the header information. What in To
address line?

I appreciate your time and efforts to the issue. I am happy to be of
assistance to you.

Have a nice day!

Hi Perry,

Thanks for posting back. I appreciate your time.

The internet Header records information of the email that comes from
internet not the internal email.

Could you tell me how you configured the undeliverable mail strategy? Do
you receive these emails using the POP3 connector and configure the
Undeliverable POP3 mail to your mailbox?

From your .msg file, I can not verify that if the email is an
undeliverable
mail and then send to me.

Please try to reproduce the issue (send a email to a non-existent user
account in your email domain) and use message tracking to track the
email.
You can mail me the message tracking log for analyze. Please let me know
the information: exact mail sender, recipient mail address and time when
the issue happens.

To enable the Message Tracking logs, please perform the steps in the
following KB articles:

The customer mail content:

Hi Jenny
Sorry it has taken so long to reply but I've been a bit busy at the
moment.
I tried what you suggested but it still has my name (PerryJ) in the 'To'
part.

I've attached an email in msg format so you can have a look, I know this
email should have gone to someone else in the company but the recipients
name must have been mis-spelled and as postmaster for undeliverable mail
it
came to me, but it striips off who it should go to.
I hope this makes sence to you, I'm getting lost myself now.
Hope you can help

Regards Perry

Hi PAJ,

Thanks for using the SBS newsgroup.

From your description, I understand that you want to know the recipient
email address of the undeliverable mails. If I am off base, please don't
hesitate to let me know.

You can view the detail message information by checking the Internet
Header. You can check it as below:

Open Outlook, right click email that is received from external domain
and
select Options, In the Message Options, you can view the Internet
Header.
The Internet Headers include information about the sender''s Internet
location such as public IP address, the date and time the message was
sent,
the message-ID, the subject of the message, and may also have other
details
about the path the message has taken en route to your inbox.

If you still can not get the information, please save one such email in
.msg format and send it to me for analyze. My working mailbox is:
v-yanniw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hope above information helps. I am happy to be of assistance to you and
look forward to your reply!

Have a nice day!

When we have maiol arrive at our server where the name has been spelt
incorrectly it is forwarded to me as the system administrator, when I
get it and try to forward it to the correct user I don't know who it
should have been because my email address is now in the "To" box. Is
there a way to find the original addressee?
