Re: Errors during SBS 2003 SP1 Installation

Hello Assaf,

Thank you for posting back!

Please understand that in SBS 2K3, we do not support separate Program files
and WINDOWS on different drives, because this may cause critical issues in
the future. I suggest that you contact Microsoft Product Support Services
via telephone for advanced solution and a dedicated Support Professional
can assist with your request.

Thanks a lot for your time and understanding!

Best regards,

Brandy Nee

Brandy Hi,

I have 4 partitions on my server.
C: - partition for OS (where windows folder is).
D: - Partition for program files (all programs, including all programs
installed by SBS 2003). The Exchsrvr folder is located here.
E: - Partition for Exchange Database files. While installing the
Exchange server the installation asks where would you like to put the
databases (MDBDATA) so I chose this partition.
F: - Partition for Data And Shares ? Company shared folders, Client
Applications, Users shared folders, etc.)

I did not "move" the program files folder to Partition D, I just
installed all software into that partition.
By default ? the Program files folder is set to c:\program files. This
means that whenever you install a program, the default location will be
c:\program files\ProgramName.
Changing the registry key
HKLM->Software->Microsoft->Windows->CurrentVersion->"ProgramFilesDir"
From "C:\Program Files" to "D:\Program Files" changes that default, so
when I install new software, I don?t have to change the Installation
Path every time.
I changed this property from personal knowledge, but if you look at
this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/164808/en-us it
discusses changing the same property.

Thanks,
Assaf Golan
