Thanks again Jenny,
I see the function now... BUT for reference, until I ticked it the box
(Basic Authentication (password is sent in
clear text)" in ExchWeb virtual server) the location to put the domain
name was grayed out so I just assumed... anyway I now un-ticked the box,
restarted the default website and checked to see if the name remained..
indid, so I checked function... all is well.

Hi Dirk-Thomas,
No, we need not tick the option "Basic Authentication (password is sent
correspondingclear text)" in ExchWeb virtual server.
Let me describe more detail about the domain\username issue's cause:
By default, the Default Domain property on the corresponding IIS
sub-directories (under Authentication -> Access Control) will be set as
following:
1. Exchange: \
2. ExchWeb/Bin: \
However, Exchange 2003 SP1 replaces the OWA logon screen (Program
Files\Exchsrvr\bin\auth\usa\logon.asp) and it caused OWA now to ask for
domain\username instead of simply just the username.
Solution:
===============
We can add the domain name in the Exchange virtual directory, Directory
Security, Authentication and access control, Default Domain to fix the
issue.
Another:
===============
If the domain name specified for ExchWeb/Bin is not configured and it is
not the same as Exchange virtual server, users cannot call the Spell
Checker from ExchWeb/Bin.
Please feel free to let me know if you have any further question on the
issue. I am glad to help-).
Have a nice day!
Sincerely,
Jenny Wu

Hi Dirk-Thomas,
Thanks for your update. I appreciate your time to the issue.
The spell checker issue may occurs due to that the domain name
66.123.75.67correspondingfor ExchWeb/Bin is not configured and it is not the same as Exchage.
In order to resolve this issue, navigate to ExchWeb/Bin and change its
domain setting to match Exchange. To do this, try the following:
*Note: Please configure the Exchange virtual server as required in my
previous post, and then configure the ExchWeb/Bin to use the same
default
domain settings.
1. Open SBS Server Management console, locate the node ExchWeb (under
the
default web site), expend "ExchWeb", right-click "Bin" and then select
"Properties".
2. Go to the Directory Security Tab
3. Click EDIT in Authentication and access control
4. Configure the default domain setting as Exchange virtual folder and
click OK to finish the configuration.
5. Restart the default web site.
Then please test the issue again to see if the issue is resolved.
Have a nice day!
Sincerely,
Jenny Wu

work, I get an error sating it can not be completed at this time, and
OWA

It put the setting back to the default "\" restarted the default
don'tagain and all functions normally againapplication
Any further suggestions would be helpful.

that is not certified to run with Windows Server SP-1 (In this case
the
full SBS SP-1)
Thanks again for the refresher...

Hi Dirk-Thomas,
From your description, I understand the issue to be: you need input
domain
name/user name to access the OWA site. If I am off base, please
logonusinghesitate to let me know.
Let us perform the following tests to see if it helps:
I. Please double check if you can just input user name (without the
domain
name) to access the OWA site. If you still able to log on to OWA by
just user name. On the OWA logon screen it now requests
"Domain\username:"
where I think it used to request just the username.
In this scenario, we can change "Domain name\user name:" on the
thescreen to "User name:" by following these steps:
1. Open logon.asp in C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\exchweb\bin\auth\usa
with
Notepad.
2. Find the following line:
CONST L_UserName_Text = "Domain\user name:"
3. Change "Domain\user name:" to "User name:".
4. Save the logon.asp.
II. If you cannot log on to OWA by using just user name (without
the
domain name), we can perform the following changes in IIS to resolve
the
issue:
1. Open the properties of the Exchange Virtual Directory (under
http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/b/5/fb5c54af-fe5c-48e9-be97-f9e8207tobydefault web site).
2. Go to the Directory Security Tab
3. Click EDIT in Authentication and access control
4. Change the Default domain to match the NETBIOS Domain name of
the
organization.
5. Ok the changes.
6. Restart the default web site.
Now, you should be able to access OWA using Forms Based
Authentication
just typing in the Username.
Additionally it is recommended that you apply the Whole SBS 2003 SP1
tothe
SBS server box first and then apply Exchange 2003 SP2. You can refer
the
following article to apply SBS 2003 SP1.
Installing Windows SBS 2003 with SP1, "Getting Started" at the
Microsoft
Web site (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=51143
Also I would like to suggest that you take a look at the following
article
regarding to Exchange 2003 SP2.
Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2 Release Notes
thereand325ab/Ex_2003_SP2_RelNotes.htm
Hope above information helps! I am happy to be of assistance to you
issueslook forward to your reply.
