Guys,
I don't understand the issue, the wizards will walk you through the rest. It
will actually be better and easier to support/maintain etc... when setup
this way. You will get monitoring, security, easy setup of clients to the
network... etc.. you must have read some of the benefits before you
purchased it (except, as is evident by this thread, for the limitations)...
And yes it must be so by design (documented)... If you wanted workgroup then
perhaps plain Windows 2003 Server would have been a better choice.
Anyway, it probably will/would have taken less time to complete the install
properly than deal with the shutdowns and researching a way around the
limitations. Truly just finish the installation... you will be much happier
with the results than if you could get it to run in workgroup only mode.

I am experiencing the same problem. Only have 5 computers int he workgroup
and would much rather avoid the DC thing. Please help!

You need to fully complete the SBS install and make it a domain
controller
to stop this. This is by design.

Hi I just finished a simple workgroup install of SBS 2003. Now the
server
is
shutting down about every 3-4 hours. It is a graceful shutdown,
applications
closed, network connection released ect. It is very disruptive. It is
also
happening on the clone server used to backup data and test the
configuration
of the production server. Any insights.
