From your description, I understand that you would like to keep the
addresses appear in the drop down list when you open a new email address
and type a few letters in the To box after you migrate the user to a new
workstation. If I am off base, please don't hesitate to let me know.
Based on my knowledge, the addresses are stored in an .nk2 file which is
used by Outlook to perform both the automatic name checking and the
automatic completion features. To save the addresses, you need to search
the .nk2 file of the profile with the name <Profile Name>.nk2 and then back
it up. After replaced the user's workstation, please paste the same .nk2
file in the original location with the new profile's name. Please refer to
the following steps to process:
Step 1: Search and backup the original .nk2 file.

1. Quit Outlook.
2. Start Microsoft Windows Explorer.
3. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options, and then click the View tab.
4. Under Advanced Settings, click to select the Show hidden files and
folders check box.
5. Click OK.
6. Click Start, point to Search, and then click All files or folders.
7. In the Search Companion box, type *.NK2 in the All or part of the file
name box: box.
8. In the Look In box, click to select your local hard disk.
9. Click Search.
10. The .NK2 file with the name of the profile that you are using is the
one you need to back up.
By default, the file is located in the following folder in Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Step 2: Restore the .nk2 file.

If you would like to use the original .nk2 file in a new Outlook profile,
please replace the <New Profile Name>.nk2 with the original .nk2 file and
rename it as the <New Profile Name>.nk2. Then you are able to use it.

This is a file that can't get transferred from what I've seen. This
should be exportable or part of the pst but isn;tthe

I have a client that apparently types the email addresses in manually and
relies on typing the name in again to see it show back up in the TO box.
Yes
a new one for the books. Client did not add the incoming email addresses
into the contacts, hence no contact saved in exchange 2003.
So when I replaced her PC with a new one, and stup her Outlook 2003 to
connect to the exchange server... surprise surprise. I get a call that
all
her contacts where gone. I plugged the old PC back in and saw what she
had
done. Open the outlook and new mail and start typing "T" there are all
newemail address that start with T.
So... can someone tell me how to migrate this information over to the
PC.
Does prefetch have anything to do here?
