Re: OWA Authentication ? Domain/Name

Opps Jenny I spoke to soon.

I can now authenticate with user name only BUT the spell check will not
work, I get an error sating it can not be completed at this time, and OWA
times out requiring me to logon again.

It put the setting back to the default "\" restarted the default website
again and all functions normally again

Any further suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks Jenny, its been so long since I needed to do this I forgot it!
Anyway, all is well now.

I understand the need for the full SP pack but client runs an application
that is not certified to run with Windows Server SP-1 (In this case the
full SBS SP-1)

Thanks again for the refresher...

Hi Dirk-Thomas,

From your description, I understand the issue to be: you need input
domain
name/user name to access the OWA site. If I am off base, please don't
hesitate to let me know.

Let us perform the following tests to see if it helps:

I. Please double check if you can just input user name (without the
domain
name) to access the OWA site. If you still able to log on to OWA by using
just user name. On the OWA logon screen it now requests
"Domain\username:"
where I think it used to request just the username.

In this scenario, we can change "Domain name\user name:" on the logon
screen to "User name:" by following these steps:

1. Open logon.asp in C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\exchweb\bin\auth\usa with
Notepad.
2. Find the following line:
CONST L_UserName_Text = "Domain\user name:"

3. Change "Domain\user name:" to "User name:".
4. Save the logon.asp.

II. If you cannot log on to OWA by using just user name (without the
domain name), we can perform the following changes in IIS to resolve the
issue:

1. Open the properties of the Exchange Virtual Directory (under the
default web site).
2. Go to the Directory Security Tab
3. Click EDIT in Authentication and access control
4. Change the Default domain to match the NETBIOS Domain name of the
organization.
5. Ok the changes.
6. Restart the default web site.

Now, you should be able to access OWA using Forms Based Authentication by
just typing in the Username.

Additionally it is recommended that you apply the Whole SBS 2003 SP1 to
the
SBS server box first and then apply Exchange 2003 SP2. You can refer to
the
following article to apply SBS 2003 SP1.

Installing Windows SBS 2003 with SP1, "Getting Started" at the Microsoft
Web site (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=51143

Also I would like to suggest that you take a look at the following
article
regarding to Exchange 2003 SP2.

Hope above information helps! I am happy to be of assistance to you and
look forward to your reply.

Have a nice day!

Sincerely,

Jenny Wu

SBS 2003 Premium recent security packs including Exchange Server done.
SBS
NOT at SP1 yet Exchange 2003 is at SP2 but all up to date other than
that.
After doing the last Exchange security update I am back to needing to put
the domain name/user name in before OWA lets me in. I remember a fix/cure
for this but forgot it.

Can anyone lead me back in the right direction please?

Dirk-Thomas
