Policies Folder has disappeared

Hello,
I have a strange problem. A couple of weeks ago I went to a client site
and installed Exchange 2003 SP2. After the installation was complete I
noticed that the users were missing some of their mapped drives, so I
checked the login script in the SYSVOL\domain.local\scripts folder,
only to find that the domain.local folder was completely empty. This
happened directly after the service pack.
I restored the scripts folder from backup but silly me did not notice
the policies folder was missing as well until a few days ago when my
Server report indicated several hundred critical errors all to do with
Group Policy. The client's backup drive has since been overwritten.
The polices still show up in the GP MMC but when I try to edit them I
simply get an error because the MMC can not find the files associated
with the policy.
Does anybody know:
1) What would cause this?
and
2) What is the best resolution?
- I am thinking that reinstalling the portion of SBS that creates the
default domain policies is the best course of action, but I am unsure
what to reinstall, is it Administration?
Thanks!
- Jesse
