RE: Email Problems Exchange 2003 SP2, Outlook 2003 for Exchange Cl

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your update. I appreciate your time and efforts to the issue.

I am sorry for the delayed response due to weekend. Please understand that
the newsgroups are staffed weekdays by Microsoft Support professionals to
answer your systems and applications questions. Your understanding is
greatly appreciated!

The utility indeed seems hard to use and we use it to clean the Temp folder
in the store as you have known. And the messages hung in here that mostly
had been delivered to appropriate recipients. There are only very small
volume messages that never were delivered before. You can monitor these
messages using message tracking tool.

To enable the Message Tracking logs, please perform the steps in the
following KB articles:

823864 Improved Message Tracking Features in Exchange Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=823864

821910 How to troubleshoot for Exchange Server 2003 transport issues
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=821910

Then please reboot the server again, can you still receive those messages
that you have received when reboot the server box last time?

It is recommended that we clean the TEMP TABLE folder using Profinst.exe
utility during some time period to move corrupted messages or information.

Hope above information helps.

Have a nice day!

Sincerely,

Jenny Wu

Hi Again,

I still do not know how to use the Profinst.exe, but then I read through
your message a couple of times and the end result was to delete the
messages?
Are we deleting the emails that the clients should have received? I don't
want them deleted. They were business emails that the client should have
received, but did not until after I re-booted the SBS.

Sorry, I'm confused.

Thanks for your response.

Hi Steve,

I am happy to work with you again-).

From your description, I understand the issue to be: when you reboot the
server, users received old emails that should be sent weeks ago. If I am
off base, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Based on my research, when users send emails, those emails will be
temporarily stored in the TEMP TABLE folder. Some emails may be hung
here
for some reasons such as some core component corrupted or they are
blocked
by some applications. When the exchange server reboot or SMTP service is
reboot, the SMTP service will check the store and re-try to send emails
hung in the temp table folder.

I suggest you perform the following steps to clear the temp folder on
the
store to resolve the issue:

1> It''''s recommended that you perform a full backup of the Exchange
server first.

2> Log on to the Exchange server with an account that has domain
administrator credentials.

3> Grant the Administrator account the Send As and Receive As
permissions
on each of the mailbox stores:

a. Open Exchange System Manager.
b. Expand Servers -> <servername> -> First Storage Group.
c. Right click on the Mailbox Store, and click properties.
d. On the security tab, click Advanced button.
e. Uncheck "Allow inheritable permissions from parent...".
f. Click Copy when prompted.
g. Click OK. Click Yes when prompted.
h. Select Administrator, and check Allow on "Send As" and "Receive As".
You
will see that the check mark on Deny column will be cleared
automatically.
i. Select Domain Admins, and check Allow on "Send As" and "Receive As".
j. Select Enterprise Admins, and check Allow on "Send As" and "Receive
As".
k. Click OK.

4> On the Outlook client computer, logon with an account that has domain
administrator credentials.

5> Run the Profinst.exe utility with no command-line switches. This
creates
a profile that is named "SMTP (<Servername> {<GUID>})" where
<Servername>
is the name of the Exchange server, and <GUID> is the globally unique
identifier. I have attached the tool in the reply.

6> Start the Mdbvu32.exe program. You may download it from the following
link:

Exchange 2003: Information Store Viewer (MDBVU32)

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=3D1C7482-4C6E-4EC5-
983E-127100D71376&displaylang=en

7> In the "MAPILogonEx(MAPI_LOGON_UI)" dialog box, click to select the
"MAPI_EXPLICIT_PROFILE" check box, and then click "OK".

8> When you are prompted to select a MAPI profile, click "PROFINST1" in
the
"Profile Name" list, and then click "OK".

9> On the "MDB" menu, click "OpenMessageStore".

10> Click "Private Folders", and then click "Open".

12> On the "MDB" menu, click "Open Root Folder".

12> Delete the messages in the Temp Tables folders. For example, delete
the
messages in the "TempTable#1" folder. To do so:

a. Select the message in the folder.

b. In the "Operations available(Select operation, then push Call
Function
Button)" list, click "lpFld->DeleteMessages()", and then click "Call
Function".

c. When you are finished deleting messages, click "Close".

13> On the "MDB" menu, click "Store Logoff".

14> Click to select the "LOGOFF_ORDERLY" check box, and then click "OK".

15> On the message that states the store logoff is complete, click "OK".

16> Quit the MDB Viewer Test Application program.

Hope above information helps! I am happy to be of assistance to you and
look forward to your reply.

Have a nice day!

Sincerely,

Jenny Wu

My SBS2003 looks as if it is running well. Had no unusual error
messages
and
the daily monitoring reports show that all is well.

As a result I did not reboot for a whole month. People were not
complaining
about sending or receiving emails.

Problem. After I finally did reboot, people suddenly received new
Emails
that were weeks old, that they haven't received yet. It looks like some
emails got hung up, where many were not.

The only thing that I did before rebooting is empty out the UceArchive
folder which contained almost 10,000 entries of filtered email.

Any suggestions why some of the emails(not many) weren't delivered when
they
were supposed to be, and then suddenly delivered after the reboot?
